Cool Edition Starts With Three Terrains

Switch 2 players receive Chernarus and Livonia through the base game, while Frostline adds the frozen volcanic archipelago of Sakhal.

That gives newcomers three distinct survival environments from day one, with Sakhal adding harsher cold, limited resources, and greater emphasis on warmth and preparation.

Up to 60 Survivors Share a Server

DayZ remains an online-only experience on Switch 2.

Chernarus and Livonia support servers of up to 60 players, while Sakhal supports up to 50. There is no traditional campaign telling players what to do; interactions with other survivors can turn into cooperation, trade, avoidance, robbery, or combat.

Nitrado-backed community servers are also supported.

Switch 2 Features Go Beyond a Straight Port

Bohemia has incorporated several hardware-specific features into this version.

Players can use gyro aiming, Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, and the touchscreen for inventory management. DLSS, VRR, and Pro Controller support are also included.

TV, Tabletop, and Handheld play modes are all supported.

Update 1.29 Is Included, Badlands Comes Later

The launch build includes all official content through Update 1.29 Road to Badlands.

The upcoming DayZ Badlands expansion is not included in Cool Edition at launch, but Bohemia plans to bring it to Switch 2 at a later date.

A platform-specific Badlands release date has not been announced.

The Switch 2 Release Is Not Available in Japan

There is one important regional caveat.

Although Japanese is included in the supported-language list, DayZ Cool Edition is not listed on the Japanese Nintendo eShop.

Japanese community site DayZ速報 also reports receiving confirmation from DayZ that the game would not be released in Japan, leaving the Switch 2 version without an official Japanese price.

Why This Matters

1) DayZ finally reaches a Nintendo platform

After years on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, Switch 2 represents a significant new platform for Bohemia's long-running survival game.

2) The hardware features are being actively used

Gyro, Joy-Con 2 mouse input, and touchscreen inventory controls offer control options not available in the same form on traditional console versions.

3) Frostline is included from day one

New players get Chernarus, Livonia, and Sakhal without needing to buy Frostline separately.
