Five Magical Girls With Distinct Playstyles

The current demo features Ichika, Nozomi, Justice, Saki, and Yui.

Ichika is a versatile all-rounder with projectiles, short-range teleport mixups, and a powerful tracking super. Nozomi uses moves that can become stronger under specific conditions and relies heavily on meter management.

Justice stands out through jump cancels and freer air-combo routes. Saki replaces conventional dashes with teleports and can attach card bombs, while Yui focuses more heavily on setups, individual hits, and a command grab.

Simple Controls Without Traditional Motion Inputs

Steam presents accessibility as one of Magical Rapture's defining combat features.

Special moves use direction + Magica, eliminating the need for quarter-circles and other complex traditional motions. Normal attacks are divided into Flick, Slash, and Clash, alongside dedicated Magica and Super buttons.

The Magic Gauge remains strategically important because different specials consume different amounts of meter.

The Demo Already Includes Offline and Online Modes

Despite the full game still being under development, the demo includes several standard fighting-game modes.

Players can use Local VS, VS CPU, Training Mode, Tutorial, and limited Combo Trials. Online PvP is also available through player rooms and a random matchmaking queue.

The developer has not specified the type of netcode currently used, so rollback support cannot yet be confirmed.

SuperCombo Likes the Presentation but Finds Ground Movement Stiff

SuperCombo reviewer Andrea “Jens” Demetrio found the presentation promising, particularly the hand-drawn character art, hit effects, and clear visual identity across the five fighters.

The current demo, however, was criticized for somewhat stiff grounded movement. Characters cannot directly jump out of a run without first dropping forward momentum, making ground traversal feel heavier than expected.

Combo routes are also relatively strict for most of the roster, with Justice standing out as the most flexible thanks to jump cancels and air combos.

The Combat System Is Still Fairly Experimental

The demo currently has no universal throw. Broader defensive options such as a burst mechanic are also absent.

Special and super attacks both draw from the Magic Gauge, meaning meter usage shapes both offense and defensive escape options.

Air movement is considerably freer than ground movement, as characters can perform multiple airborne actions before landing.

The Full Release Still Has No Date

Steam continues to list Coming Soon for the final version.

The store categorizes the game under Action, Indie, and Free To Play while listing Online PvP, Shared/Split Screen PvP, Remote Play Together, and controller support.

The development account remains active with progress updates, while the public demo now gives players a direct way to provide feedback on the current build.

Why This Matters

1) Magical girls are the entire fighting-game identity

Rather than having one magical girl within a mixed roster, the whole presentation and combat concept revolves around them.

2) Inputs are simple while resource management still matters

Players avoid complex motions but still have to decide whether Magic Gauge should be spent on specials or saved for bigger attacks.

3) The public demo creates room for substantial iteration

Movement, combo structure, balance, and online systems are still actively developing, making player feedback particularly relevant.
