Minarai Majo no Homestay Cover

An Apprentice Witch Drops Into the First Day of Summer Vacation

The official synopsis begins on the morning of summer vacation's first day. 煤鹿千悧 suddenly encounters Lenel, a girl dressed unmistakably as a witch who introduces herself as an apprentice visiting Japan for training.

Things become stranger after Lenel finds a notebook filled with the protagonist's private fantasies. Rather than dismissing it as embarrassing material, she claims that its contents can help increase her magical power.

“Homestay Magic” Lets Lenel Move In

Lenel then asks to live together and uses magic that makes people around her naturally recognize her as an exchange student from Britain.

That “居候魔法” concept becomes the foundation of the story's cohabitation comedy. The protagonist gradually becomes involved as Lenel's cheerful personality and determined approach to her training begin to win him over.

Another Witch Comes to Take Lenel Back

The new living arrangement eventually faces a larger problem. KADOKAWA's synopsis reveals that another witch appears with the intention of taking Lenel away.

Neither that character's identity nor the full reason Lenel must return has been detailed publicly, leaving the first volume with a clear fantasy conflict beyond its domestic-comedy setup.

A New MF Bunko J Work From Hinachihoko

Hinachihoko has also written the Trick or Delete series for Dengeki Bunko. His new MF Bunko J project is illustrated by Kazune Haka.

KADOKAWA lists the novel among MF Bunko J's October 2026 releases, with the first volume scheduled for October 23.

Why This Matters

1) The fantasy premise is built around living together

Magic is not only a combat device here—it directly enables Lenel to become part of the protagonist's everyday household.

2) An embarrassing notebook becomes part of the magic system

A private collection of fantasies, normally played purely for comedy, is tied directly to Lenel's magical growth.

Game Ad

Baldur's Gate 3

3) The first synopsis already establishes a larger conflict

The arrival of another witch suggests the story will move beyond simple homestay comedy.
