Shiba Inu Rooms Anime Teaser PV

An Affordable Apartment with a Ghost Shiba Inu

Shiba Inu Rooms follows Kori Momose, a high school student searching for a new home after transferring schools. She discovers an apartment called Maison Shiba, which offers impressive facilities for an unusually low monthly rent of just ¥4,800.

The apartment features a one-bedroom layout, an IH kitchen, separate bathroom and toilet facilities, and a washbasin. However, the low price comes with an unusual condition: the room is occupied by Mu, a Shiba Inu whose spirit remains bound to the property.

Kori is serious, hardworking, and not easily frightened, although she struggles to understand supernatural situations. Her encounter with Mu begins an unusual shared life filled with comedy and touching moments.

First Teaser Shows Kori Meeting Mu

The first teaser focuses on Kori arriving at the surprisingly affordable apartment. After learning that the property has a reputation for being haunted, the situation takes an unexpected turn when the landlord opens a closet door.

Inside is Mu, a grumpy-looking Shiba Inu with large eyes. The dog's distinctive expressions become one of the main highlights of the promotional video.

The anime announcement visual also features Kori gently squeezing Mu's cheeks. Although the dog appears displeased, Mu accepts the interaction, introducing the unusual relationship at the heart of the series.

Main Cast and Animation Studio Revealed

The Shiba Inu Rooms anime is directed by Osamu Yamasaki, with character designs by Rio. Animation production is handled by TMS Entertainment.

Niina Nakabayashi voices Kori Momose, a high school student who has difficulty expressing her emotions but remains serious and determined.

Mutsumi Tamura voices Mu, an earthbound Shiba Inu spirit connected to Room 101 of Maison Shiba. Mu is known for immediately showing displeasure through facial expressions.

Both performers have expressed enthusiasm for the heartwarming relationship between the characters and the emotional development that emerges through their shared daily lives.

Esu Omori Celebrates the Anime Announcement

Original manga creator Esu Omori contributed a special illustration showing Mu leaping out of a television, surrounded by multiple drawings of Shiba Inu dogs making different expressions.

In an official message, Omori expressed gratitude toward readers and everyone who supported the manga. The creator also shared excitement about finally seeing Mu and the other dogs move and speak in animated form.

The adaptation represents a major milestone for Shiba Inu Rooms, which had accumulated more than 57 million views on Shonen Jump+ by October 2026.

Manga Volume 9 Arrives November 4

Shiba Inu Rooms originated as a one-shot manga in 2023 before becoming a regular series on Shonen Jump+ in June 2024.

Eight collected volumes have been released in Japan, with Volume 9 scheduled for November 4, 2026, just days after the anime announcement.

The manga continues to update every other Thursday, allowing readers to follow Kori and Mu's story before the animated adaptation arrives in 2027.

Why This Matters

1) A ghost story without conventional horror

Rather than focusing on frightening encounters, Shiba Inu Rooms uses its supernatural premise to explore comedy and emotional connections.

2) Mu's expressions should translate well into animation

The Shiba Inu's grumpy face and distinctive behavior give the anime opportunities to expand upon the personality already established through manga panels.

3) The adaptation arrives as the manga continues growing

With more than 57 million views and another volume approaching, the anime offers an opportunity to introduce the series to a wider audience.
