Swords & Slippers, the upcoming character-action roguelite from Polish indie studio Mass Creation, has surpassed 200,000 Steam wishlists. The milestone arrived only five days after the game reached 100,000 wishlists, with that first six-figure mark itself achieved in under 100 hours.

The project reimagines familiar fairytale heroines including Snow White, Red Hood, and Rapunzel as distinct playable fighters. Its combat combines deep combo routes, mid-combo character swapping, elemental upgrades, and a style system, while time spent back at the castle develops relationships and storylines outside each roguelite run.

From 100,000 to 200,000 Wishlists in Five Days

Mass Creation first announced that Swords & Slippers had passed 100,000 Steam wishlists in under 100 hours.

Another five days was enough to double that figure to 200,000. The official Swords & Slippers account marked the milestone with a short hot-spring video featuring its heroines taking a break from the rebellion.

Game*Spark reports that the Steam store page went live on August 6, 2026, placing both milestones very close to the beginning of its broader public Steam campaign.

What makes that early interest more notable is how much remains unknown. Mass Creation has not announced a launch date, and Steam continues to list the release simply as “To be announced.” Pricing has not been revealed either.

Snow White, Red Hood, and Rapunzel Have Stopped Waiting to Be Rescued

Swords & Slippers flips the traditional rescue structure of its source material. Evil stepmothers have taken the thrones, while the princesses themselves have taken up arms.

Snow White crushes enemies with a dwarven pickaxe. Red Hood becomes the wolf of her own story, while Rapunzel's living hair has both a mind and a mouth of its own.

Those differences extend beyond appearance. Each heroine is designed around her own combat style, and Mass Creation says the roster will continue to grow alongside the rebellion.

Enemies follow the same reinterpretive philosophy. Armored knights and twisted creatures appear first, before familiar storybook legends return as bosses designed to challenge the player's increasingly powerful squad.

The fairytale premise therefore influences both sides of combat rather than serving only as visual dressing.

Swap Heroines Without Dropping the Combo

The game's action systems are central to Mass Creation's pitch. Each heroine has deep combo routes, while a style meter rewards players for varying attacks and maintaining creative offense.

The headline mechanic is mid-combo character swapping. A sequence can begin with one heroine and continue with another without deliberately breaking the chain.

Defense is also meant to preserve momentum instead of simply stopping the action. Successful play is built around staying dangerous while responding to enemy pressure.

Because every heroine has a distinct kit, squad composition affects more than character preference. Different combinations can alter how a player constructs longer strings and transitions from one moveset into another.

Mass Creation describes the project as a return to the spirit of older character-action games where responsive combat and the act of mastering a moveset were the main attraction.

Every Run Starts at Dawn and Gets Deadlier by Midnight

Its roguelite structure gives each attempt an explicit time curve. A run begins at dawn, with the player's chosen heroines building power as the day progresses.

Elemental powers and other upgrades expand their options along the way. Surviving longer therefore strengthens the squad, but it also moves the run toward increasingly dangerous encounters.

The highest pressure comes at midnight, when enemies are at their strongest and the available rewards are also at their richest.

That time structure gives the run a clear escalation rather than presenting every area at the same intensity.

Power-ups do not replace the underlying action systems, either. The Steam description repeatedly emphasizes skilled combat, defense, swapping, and combo creativity as the ways those upgrades are turned into effective play.

Prince Charming Has Relationship Problems Waiting at the Castle

Between runs, the heroines return to the castle, where the player's perspective shifts to Prince Charming.

Players can build trust, uncover personal secrets, and make decisions that shape the individual stories of each heroine.

Romance is possible, but Prince Charming carries a cursed charm. Affection can eventually twist into dangerous obsession, giving the relationship system a darker consequence than a straightforward dating mechanic.

The narrative also reacts to what happens during runs. The heroines taken into battle, the paths chosen, and how far a run progresses can unlock scenes that may never appear in a different playthrough.

Replay value therefore serves both mechanical and narrative purposes: different squad compositions can create new combat possibilities while also revealing different pieces of the characters' stories.

Fanservice Is an Intentional Part of the Game's Identity

Mass Creation does not present the game's mature visual direction as an accidental by-product. The studio has explicitly described fanservice as part of the project's DNA.

Its presentation draws on late-1980s comic-book swagger, deliberately cheeky humor, and heroines designed to be visually striking while still functioning as serious characters in the story and combat system.

The hot-spring video released for the 200,000-wishlist milestone is one example of how that approach carries into the game's marketing.

Steam's mature-content disclosure is equally direct, listing violence, strong language, nudity, and sexual themes.

At the same time, Mass Creation continues to position action as the mechanical reason to play. The project's identity is deliberately built around both stylish combat and provocative presentation rather than treating one as a substitute for the other.

15 Languages and Requirements for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Steam currently lists 15 supported languages. English includes interface text, full audio, and subtitles, while the remaining languages—including Japanese, Korean, Polish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese—support interface text and subtitles.

The store page also publishes separate requirements for Windows, macOS, and SteamOS/Linux.

Current Windows minimums call for an Intel Core i5-7500 or Ryzen 5 1600, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 1050 or Radeon RX 570, and 30 GB of available storage.

macOS requires Apple Silicon, beginning with an M1 and macOS 12 Monterey. Linux lists Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or SteamOS 3 with Vulkan 1.2-compatible graphics drivers.

Mass Creation notes that these specifications may change before launch, so they should not yet be treated as final requirements.

Why This Matters

1) Interest is building before the game even has a release date

Passing 200,000 wishlists without a launch date or price means a substantial audience has formed while Swords & Slippers is still firmly in its pre-release phase.

2) Character switching is part of the combo system itself

Snow White, Red Hood, and Rapunzel are not isolated character selections. Their movesets can be connected within the same attack chain.

3) Roguelite progression feeds into relationship content

The heroines selected and the progress made during a run can affect scenes at the castle, giving mechanical replay choices a narrative purpose.

4) The fairytale reinterpretation affects systems as well as aesthetics

Weapons, abilities, bosses, romance, and character conflicts all pull from the warped versions of familiar stories rather than relying only on recognizable names.
