Starsand Island is almost ready to leave Early Access. Seed Sparkle Lab will launch Version 1.0 on August 18, 2026, alongside the game's digital debut on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
The headline addition is online multiplayer for up to four players. Friends can share island life while farming, fishing, gathering resources, building homes, and exploring together rather than treating Starsand Island as a strictly solo life sim.

Multiplayer Announcement, Trailer, Steam, and Gameplay

Digital Release Arrives August 18, Physical Copies Follow August 20
The Japanese console rollout has two different dates depending on format.
The PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 digital editions launch on August 18, matching Seed Sparkle Lab's Version 1.0 release.
The developer has set the full-release time for 5:00 a.m. PDT / 12:00 p.m. UTC, which corresponds to 9:00 p.m. JST.
Game Source Entertainment has separately confirmed that the Japanese physical editions remain scheduled for August 20. The physical release was not moved forward when the digital date changed.
The Japanese retail price is ¥7,018 including tax, although GSE notes that actual retailer pricing may vary.
Four Players Can Share Island Life Online
Version 1.0 finally brings one of the most substantial additions discussed during development: online multiplayer.
Up to four players can join an online session.
Confirmed shared activities include farming, fishing, gathering materials, building, and exploring, allowing players to split their time rather than forcing everyone to perform the same task.
One friend can tend crops while another goes fishing or searches for resources, preserving the relaxed nature of the game even when multiple people are playing.
The Japanese PlayStation Store also lists four-player online support and includes map-based location markers as one option for communicating points of interest with other players.
Farming Is Only One Part of the Island Routine
Starsand Island is built around escaping city life for a quieter existence on a seaside island.
Players can grow tropical fruit and vegetables, care for animals, and construct a countryside villa that can be customized to fit the landscape.
Terrace gardens, yards, and other spaces can be decorated freely.
Beyond farming, the game includes fishing, crafting, cooking, mining, and exploration. Moonlit Forest, caves, ruins, rare minerals, and unusual creatures give players reasons to move beyond their property.
Combat is also part of the experience, with weapons and skills used while exploring more dangerous areas.
Travel options range from longboards and retro scooters to boats used for visiting the surrounding islands.
Friendships Can Develop Into Romance
The island is populated by residents with their own personalities and stories.
Spending time with them, completing requests, and continuing their individual storylines can deepen relationships, with some bonds eventually developing into romance.
That gives progression another dimension beyond expanding a farm or decorating a home.
Seed Sparkle Lab has also used Early Access feedback to refine systems, rebalance content, fix bugs, and expand the overall scope of island life.
Version 1.0 marks the end of that Early Access period, although the studio has indicated that launch is not intended to be the end of ongoing improvements and additional content.
Japanese Physical Copies Include an Exclusive Pre-Order Vehicle
Japanese players choosing the PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2 physical edition have an additional pre-order bonus.
Game Source Entertainment is offering a DLC vehicle described as a limited white sports car, 「光速・スピアリング」.
The vehicle is specifically advertised as a physical-edition pre-order bonus, rather than a standard reward included with every digital purchase.
Japanese physical copies carry a ¥7,018 suggested retail price and support Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese text.
Japanese, English, and Chinese voices are also listed.
The Japanese package is rated CERO A.
Version 1.0 Ends the Steam Early Access Period
Starsand Island first entered Steam Early Access in February 2026.
The Early Access build already included farming, animal care, crafting, fishing, home building, and exploration as a single-player experience.
Seed Sparkle Lab used the period to collect community feedback while adjusting balance, fixing bugs, and adding features.
On August 18, the Steam version officially leaves Early Access and becomes Version 1.0.
The developer previously stated that it did not plan to raise the base Steam price simply because the game was leaving Early Access, although actual prices and promotional discounts remain dependent on storefront and region.
Why This Matters
1) Multiplayer meaningfully changes the slow-life formula
Four players can divide farming, fishing, gathering, building, and exploration instead of turning the game into a competitive multiplayer experience.
2) Full release and new console versions arrive together
August 18 is more than a major Steam update. It is also the digital debut on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
3) Island life extends well beyond farming
Exploration, combat, vehicles, construction, NPC relationships, and romance broaden the routine beyond planting and harvesting.
4) The Japanese physical edition has its own launch plan
Physical PS5 and Switch 2 copies arrive two days after the digital release and include a dedicated pre-order vehicle bonus.
