Version 1.0 Arrives August 14

The Fine Arc said development has continued for approximately three years since the first line of code was written. The full version will reflect both that development process and community feedback gathered throughout Early Access.

The latest announcement lists only PC through Steam. Versions for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or other PC storefronts have not been confirmed.

Encounter Gates Lock Players Inside Rooms

The Depths Have Changed introduces encounter gates that seal room exits with eldritch smoke after players cross certain thresholds. The doors reopen only after every enemy in the encounter has been defeated.

Spawn events have been placed throughout rooms across all three acts. Some encounters spread enemies throughout an entire area, while others concentrate the attack around the players' current position.

The gates are fully synchronized in online co-op. Every party member remains locked inside the same encounter until the final threat has been eliminated.

Curse Dice Reshape the Effects of Sanity Loss

Sanity is now connected to the Curse Dice system. As a character's mental condition passes specific thresholds, players can roll up to four dice before the next level begins.

Mutation results affect every enemy within that level, while Law effects alter its rules or conditions. Sanity loss therefore becomes a risk-based decision that directly shapes each run rather than functioning only as a passive penalty.

Incantations have also lost their previous negative effects. Boons and eldritch incantations no longer immediately consume Sanity, with the primary consequences instead expressed through Curse Dice results.

Reloading, Weapon Rebalancing, and Over 30 Items

Ranged weapons now use a complete reload mechanic. A meter above the character displays reload progress, forcing players to find a safe opening during active encounters.

Every weapon has also been rebalanced around a faster time-to-kill and a more aggressive combat rhythm. The update adds over 30 items, including upgrades that allow players to sacrifice something valuable in exchange for additional power.

Other changes include cinematic death animations triggered by critical hits, multiplayer synchronization fixes, Daily Challenge adjustments, and new HUD indicators for active curses.

Descend into Devil Reef Alone or with Friends

Cthulhu's Reach: Devil Reef is set in 1923. The player owes money to a gangster and follows a lead toward Innsmouth and the sunken labyrinth beneath Devil Reef.

Its procedurally generated dungeons can be explored alone or through online co-op for up to four players. Dungeon and combat scaling adjusts to the size of the party.

Each run presents different weapons, relics, incantations, status effects, and upgrade choices. The further a character reaches for forbidden power, the greater the pressure placed on their Sanity.

Why This Matters

1) A major update arrives before version 1.0

Early Access players can learn the Curse Dice, reload, and encounter systems before the full launch on August 14.

2) Sanity directly changes the structure of each run

Curse Dice allow a character's mental state to determine enemy mutations and level rules rather than serving only as a steadily declining meter.

3) Encounters have become more deliberate

Room Spawn Events and locked gates create designed combat sequences within procedural dungeons, preventing players from retreating from every threat.

4) Co-op receives synchronization improvements

Encounter gates, curse states, health bars, and other effects have been revised to work more consistently for parties of up to four players.
