3D Materials Are Officially Coming in ibisPaint 14.1.0

ibis inc. describes 3D Materials as a feature that has received substantial user demand. With ver.14.1.0, 3D assets will finally become available inside ibisPaint itself.

The first preview shows a three-dimensional human figure within the canvas workspace. It marks a notable expansion for an application whose core creative workflow has traditionally centered around brushes, image materials, vectors, filters, animation and other 2D creation tools.

ibis has not yet published final documentation covering the complete 3D Materials toolset.

The Preview Shows a 3D Figure Directly in the Canvas

The announcement video provides the first practical look at the feature. A humanoid figure appears in a grid-based space while the familiar ibisPaint interface remains around the canvas.

That visual context makes the feature particularly relevant for artists who use body forms or poses as references when drawing characters. The capabilities visible in a preview should not, however, be treated as a complete specification.

There is currently no official confirmation of custom-model importing, advanced rig editing, body-proportion editing, external file formats or support for third-party 3D libraries.

ver.14.1.0 Includes Much More Than 3D

3D Materials are only one part of ver.14.1.0. Since late August, ibisPaint has gradually previewed several other changes through its official announcements.

Smart Shape is designed around turning freehand input into cleaner shapes. Relief HQ is an upgraded version of the Relief filter, while Oil Paint adds another painterly finishing option.

Recently Deleted Artworks introduces recovery from Trash, Solo Mode makes isolating a specific layer more convenient, and additional keyboard shortcuts will include functions such as switching custom brushes and opening floating windows.

Enhanced Trim, Undo/Redo for the Transform Tool, Hover Changes and an Improved Ruler Design are also part of the announced update set.

The Terms of Service Now Address 3D Materials

Ahead of the update, ibisPaint announced revised Terms of Service taking effect on September 7, 2026.

One of the changes explicitly covers 3D Materials included in ibisPaint Apps. The rules prohibit extracting that data for AI training and prohibit redistributing it in a form that allows the assets to be reused as materials.

The change confirms that ibis inc. is treating its built-in 3D library as a distinct class of protected application content, even though its catalog size, access model and full functionality have not yet been detailed.

Release Timing and Access Tiers Remain Unknown

The 3D Materials announcement only states that ver.14.1.0 is releasing soon. No specific launch date has been given.

The company has also not assigned 3D Materials to a particular access tier. ibisPaint currently operates Free, paid/ad-removal, Premium Membership and desktop Pro options, but no official announcement identifies this feature as Free, Pro or Premium.

Platform rollout details remain unannounced as well. Because Android, iOS/iPadOS, Windows and Mac builds do not always carry identical version numbers at the same moment, each platform's final status should be checked once official ver.14.1.0 release notes appear.

Why This Matters

1) 3D reference material is moving directly into ibisPaint

The first preview shows a three-dimensional figure inside the same canvas environment used for drawing.

2) This is much broader than a single 3D addition

Smart Shape, new filters, artwork recovery, Solo Mode and workflow improvements make ver.14.1.0 a substantial usability update.

3) ibis has already introduced specific rules for 3D assets

The revised Terms of Service directly addresses extraction, AI training and redistribution of included 3D Materials.

4) Important limitations remain unknown

Custom-model support, file formats, access tiers, the asset catalog and the final launch date all await further official details.

Closing

ibisPaint ver.14.1.0 introduces one of the application's most notable additions for character-art workflows by bringing 3D Materials directly into the drawing environment. The first preview already shows a three-dimensional figure alongside the standard canvas interface, while the same update also expands drawing, layer, filter and everyday workflow tools.

Several of the most important details are still being held back. The final release date, 3D asset catalog, custom-model importing, file formats, platform differences and whether the feature requires Pro or Premium access have not yet been announced.
