The Second Collaboration Is Official

The latest announcement arrives with the playful tone typical of Muse Dash. Its post jokes about Buro and players already lining up to challenge her before confirming that the second Muse Dash × maimai DX collaboration has been decided.

The accompanying visual brings the two brands together again, but the post stops there.

That means the important confirmed fact is that the collaboration is returning, not that its update has already launched.

There is currently no roadmap explaining whether the next reveal will focus on songs, dates, character content, or separate announcements for each rhythm game.

No Songs or Schedule Have Been Revealed Yet

For a crossover between rhythm games, the biggest question is naturally which tracks will move between their catalogs.

As of the August 19 announcement, no Wave 2 song has been named.

The total number of tracks is also unknown. The six-song format used during the first collaboration should therefore not be treated as confirmation of how the second wave will work.

There is no Muse Dash update date, maimai DX event period, or deadline in the current teaser either.

Characters, tour members, frames, nameplates, title screens, illustrations, and other potential bonuses remain unconfirmed as well.

The 2023 Collaboration Worked Both Ways

Muse Dash and maimai DX already have a history together.

Their first project was announced in 2023 as a mutual collaboration, with content eventually appearing in both games.

On the Muse Dash side, the crossover introduced a six-song maimai DX music pack. Unlocking it also granted a new title screen and collaboration illustration.

That first event established the collaboration as more than a simple promotional graphic: music actually moved from one rhythm-game ecosystem into the other.

Wave 2 now builds on that history, although there is no confirmation that its structure will precisely mirror the 2023 event.

maimai DX Received Six Muse Dash Tracks

SEGA launched Muse Dash Chiho in maimai DX on April 14, 2023, with the event running through June 22.

The six Muse Dash tracks included were:

  • Lights of Muse — Ayatsugu_Otowa
  • tape/stop/night — Sugar & Co.
  • Final Step! — Lime
  • The 90’s Decision — MYUKKE.
  • 僕の和風本当上手 — ボス
  • Cthugha — USAO

Four were tied to progression through Muse Dash Chiho, while two were added directly to the Game & Variety category.

It turned the original collaboration into a meaningful music exchange rather than a cosmetic-only crossover.

Rin, Buro, and Marija Appeared as maimai Tour Members

The original maimai event also represented Muse Dash through its characters.

Players could unlock several tour members based on Rin, Buro, and Marija, including multiple costume variations.

These ranged from familiar forms such as Rin (Bassist), Buro (Pilot), and Marija (Violinist) to additional variants including Zombie Girl, Little Devil, Bad Girl, and the Nyan Universe trio.

The event also offered a Muse Dash nameplate and five collaboration frames.

Whether the second wave will revive the Chiho format or use a different maimai event structure has not been announced.

Muse Dash Also Received Six maimai Tracks

The music exchange went in the opposite direction as well.

Muse Dash's original collaboration update bundled six songs associated with maimai DX into a dedicated music pack.

The pack also included a title screen and collaboration illustration, while one of its tracks received a hidden chart.

That history matters because both titles received actual content in the first project.

Even so, the words “second collaboration” should not yet be interpreted as a guarantee of another six-for-six exchange. No Wave 2 song count or distribution plan has been published.

Two Rhythm Games With Very Different Chart Languages

Muse Dash mixes rhythm gameplay with side-scrolling action. Players attack enemies and avoid obstacles in time with the music through a comparatively compact input system that becomes increasingly demanding on harder charts.

maimai DX comes from the arcade world. Its circular cabinet combines physical buttons around the display with a large touchscreen, supporting taps, holds, slides, touch notes, and more complex movement patterns.

That makes a music crossover more interesting than simply sharing audio files.

A track designed around two-lane combat in Muse Dash has to become a full circular arcade chart in maimai, while a maimai song needs to be reinterpreted around Muse Dash's completely different interaction model.

Why This Matters

1) The collaboration already has a proven history

The 2023 event exchanged music and character-related content rather than stopping at branding.

2) The Wave 2 song list is completely open

Not a single track has been confirmed yet, making the next music reveal the biggest piece of information still missing.

3) The games approach rhythm charts very differently

Songs shared between them have to be translated into two distinct ways of reading and interacting with music.

4) The crossover is returning more than three years later

Both catalogs have continued growing since 2023, giving a second collaboration a much larger pool of possible tracks to draw from.
