Muse Dash is giving Rin another playable identity. The game's official Japanese account revealed 「二面ノ怪盗 リン」 on September 11, 2026, with Mami Uchida once again credited as her Japanese voice actor.
The biggest part of the announcement is not simply the mask or phantom-thief aesthetic. Muse Dash explicitly says this version of Rin can steal the skill of another character, introducing a concept that could make her considerably more flexible than characters built around a single fixed ability. The accompanying teaser also points toward the night of September 25.

Phantom-Thief Rin, Muse Dash and the September 25 Teaser
The New Rin Can “Steal” Another Character's Skill
The key line in the announcement is explicit: 二面ノ怪盗リンは、任意のキャラクターのスキルを盗むことができる.
In practical terms, Muse Dash says the new Rin can steal another character's skill.
That stands apart from the usual Muse Dash structure in which playable characters have their own abilities. Steam describes the game as featuring characters with distinct personalities, animations, voice work and gameplay skills that influence scoring or survival.
A Rin capable of taking those abilities could therefore become an unusually flexible character.
For now, however, the reveal only confirms the central concept. No skill-selection interface, numerical statistics or detailed gameplay demonstration has been published to explain exactly how the stealing system works.
It Is Still Unclear How Broad the Skill-Copying System Really Is
The Japanese wording uses 任意のキャラクター, which ordinarily suggests a character of the player's choosing or any selected character.
That wording alone is not enough to conclude that every ability across the entire roster—including collaboration characters or highly specialized mechanics—can be copied without restriction.
The announcement does not explain whether the source character is selected before entering a song, whether options are randomized, or whether the phantom-thief ability has additional requirements.
It also does not explain how the system handles skills tied to HP, fever, score multipliers, Great/Perfect judgments, enemies, Elfins or other special conditions.
Until PeroPero publishes gameplay footage or a complete skill page, the confirmed fact is simply that Rin can steal other characters' skills, while the exact rules remain unknown.
The Mysterious Mask Traps Rin in a Strange Memory Loop
The phantom-thief concept also becomes part of Rin's characterization through a joke in the official announcement.
The post suggests that Rin has no memory of what happens after she puts on the mask. She finds the mysterious thief mask, tries it on, forgets what happened, then encounters it again and wonders what it is before putting it on once more.
The announcement repeats that sequence several times.
Its playful conclusion is straightforward: if you find a suspicious mask on the side of the road, perhaps do not put it on immediately.
Rin's own dialogue still casts her as someone determined to arrest criminals. She rejects the idea that stealing becomes acceptable just because the target is a bad person and declares that she will catch both criminals and thieves.
That contrast fits the “two-faced” idea behind her Japanese name: Rin wants to catch thieves while her masked alter ego literally gains the power to steal.
The Teaser Points Toward the Night of September 25
One frame in the reveal video displays 「9月25日の夜」, or “the night of September 25.”
Separately, Muse Dash had already confirmed that its next update is scheduled for September 25, 2026. One piece of content already announced for that update is a track from rhythm game In Falsus joining Default Music.
The new character teaser is therefore clearly part of the promotional build-up toward the late-September update.
The visible Rin announcement does not yet provide a version number, maintenance time, platform-by-platform rollout schedule or a complete content list.
At the time this article was verified, the current iOS release remains version 6.6.1, published on August 29 following the second maimai DX collaboration update.
Mami Uchida Continues as Rin's Voice
The new variant again credits Mami Uchida (内田愛美) as Rin's voice actor.
Rin has long been one of the central faces of Muse Dash and has appeared in multiple costumes and playable variants across the game's update history.
The phantom-thief version retains Rin's identity while moving into a different visual concept built around blonde hair, a dark mask and a pink-purple thief presentation.
More importantly, this is not being presented as a purely cosmetic skin. The Japanese announcement explicitly calls her a 新キャラ, or new character, and assigns her a distinct gameplay skill.
That makes the skill-stealing system the key reason to treat this Rin as a separate playable unit rather than simply a new outfit.
Why This Matters
1) Her ability depends on other characters' abilities
Instead of giving Rin one unrelated passive effect, the phantom-thief idea is translated directly into a mechanic that steals skills.
2) The potential gameplay combinations are unusually broad
If players really can freely select a source skill, one character could cover many different functions. The actual restrictions, however, remain unannounced.
3) Character design and narrative gimmick support each other
The mask is not merely an accessory. The announcement uses it as the source of Rin's memory-loss gag and as the basis of her phantom-thief identity.
4) The reveal builds directly toward September 25
A September 25 update was already confirmed, and the Rin teaser now adds another major piece to the promotional sequence surrounding that date.

Closing
二面ノ怪盗 リン gives Muse Dash one of its clearest combinations of character theme and gameplay mechanic: she appears as a masked thief and can literally “steal” another character's ability. Mami Uchida returns as Rin's voice, while the memory-loss mask gag gives the reveal the playful tone associated with the game.
The teaser points toward the night of September 25, matching an update date that had already been announced separately. Her acquisition method, statistics, version number, skill-selection rules and possible copying restrictions remain details for a future official update.
