More Than a Remaster—the Scenario Has Been Rewritten

The largest change in Beyond the Bloom is its script.

blooming spectrum describes the game as a remake with the 2022 scenario comprehensively rewritten, pushing the project far beyond a resolution upgrade, interface revision or technical remaster.

Its central setup still revolves around Kirigamine High School's Photography Club and Hikaru's relationship with the three main heroines, but the way their story is told has been rebuilt for this version.

The tagline “Mou ichido, yarinaosou.” is particularly fitting. blooming spectrum is literally returning to its first game after gaining additional development experience through Sakurairo Tetraprism and other visual-novel projects.

The developer has also stated that players completely unfamiliar with the series can start directly with Beyond the Bloom.

The Photography Club Remains at the Center of the Story

Hikaru Sakaki is a second-year student at Kirigamine High School and president of its Photography Club.

He is also the club's only member.

At the beginning of a new school term, Hikaru is informed that the Photography Club will be dissolved. That situation brings him closer to three girls who become central to the story.

Aoi Kashiwagi is Hikaru's childhood friend and classmate. She belongs to the Cooking Club and tries to help when she learns that his club is about to disappear.

Mio Akashi is a first-year student who played basketball in junior high before joining the marching band. She begins paying attention to Hikaru after he photographs her during a school sports event.

Hatsune Suma arrives under more mysterious circumstances. She photographs a mud-covered Hikaru on a rainy day before walking away, later describing herself as a “ghost member” of the Photography Club.

Photography connects all three relationships and gives the story a way to explore memory, intimacy and how youth looks different when viewed again later.

The Three Original Heroines Return With an Expanded Cast

The remake retains Mayu Yoshioka as Aoi, Chiyo Ousaki as Mio and Yuri Yamaoka as Hatsune.

All three were the principal performers in the earlier version of Sakurairo Prism.

Beyond the Bloom also introduces a broader announced cast: Rina Tsukishiro as Shiori Tachibana, Momoko Miyashiro as Ayaka Yukishiro, Haruki Ishiya as Mr. Kajiyama, and Teiko Nanahara as Emika Tachibana and the narrator.

That brings the announced voice lineup to seven performers.

The remake additionally uses full voice acting for every character except protagonist Hikaru, a substantial expansion over the original release's partial voice implementation.

The broader cast suggests that the remake is not simply extending dialogue for its three heroines but giving supporting characters more weight within Hikaru's surroundings.

A Director's Cut Plan Evolved Into a Full Remake

The history of Beyond the Bloom is notable in its own right.

In September 2024, blooming spectrum originally announced a Director's Cut of Sakurairo Prism. That version was intended to substantially improve its scenario, illustrations, systems and other elements, with a planned 2025 release.

The project ultimately grew beyond that plan.

In September 2026, the original game's website announced that the project would instead arrive as a full remake titled Sakurairo Prism Beyond the Bloom, now carrying the firm December 17 release date.

Moving from a Director's Cut plan to a remake with a comprehensively rewritten scenario positions the game as a fresh interpretation of blooming spectrum's debut rather than simply an updated build of the 2022 version.

The original game first launched on PC on August 20, 2022 before arriving on Steam on February 3, 2023.

Daiki Ikeda Handles Much of the Production, With Saki Momiyama on Music

Daiki Ikeda holds an unusually broad set of production roles on the remake.

He is credited with direction, production, scenario writing, illustration, video, programming and additional development work.

Before establishing blooming spectrum in 2020, Ikeda worked at Nihon Falcom, contributing video production to titles including The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV and Ys IX: Monstrum Nox.

The music is composed by Saki Momiyama, a former member of Falcom Sound Team jdk whose past work includes The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero, Trails to Azure and Ys Seven.

Momiyama also composed music for Sakurairo Tetraprism, making Beyond the Bloom her second project in the Sakurairo series.

Additional credits include Kyo for the original work, ROOM-MATE for the theme song, Yoi Mizumachi on ending-theme vocals, Mirei Yamamoto on violin, and studio ecru for voice recording.

Steam Already Features an Opening Movie and New Screenshots

The Steam page for Beyond the Bloom is now live and available for wishlisting.

Its store assets include an official Opening Movie as well as a set of screenshots showing the remake's character presentation, backgrounds, dialogue scenes and visual direction.

Because the September 24 announcement primarily concerns the remake itself, its release date, cast and production changes—rather than the Opening Movie as the central news item—the article's 12-image grid uses Steam screenshots.

The Opening Movie remains a genuine official video source and can serve as footage for Short/Reels material.

Steam currently lists Japanese interface, full audio and subtitles, while support for additional languages has not been announced.

Why This Matters

1) blooming spectrum is rebuilding its first game after four years

The studio is returning to its debut after producing a sequel and other visual-novel projects, giving the remake the benefit of several additional years of production experience.

2) The script is being genuinely rewritten

This is not simply a visual remaster. Story structure and writing are among the core parts being rebuilt.

3) Voice production has expanded substantially

The remake is fully voiced outside of Hikaru, retaining the original lead cast while adding four more announced performers.

4) New players do not need prior series knowledge

Although it connects to Sakurairo Prism and the later Sakurairo Tetraprism, the remake is designed as a new starting point.
