1,000-Copy Announcement, Steam, and Gameplay

1,000 Copies in Roughly One Week
CHARON says cumulative sales for Spring at Dawn, I Am a Monster have passed 1,000 copies roughly one week after release.
According to Kaoru Nekofuji, the last CHARON games to cross 1,000 copies with comparable early momentum were Vanilla and Kaleidoscope Stella back in 2018.
The announcement describes this as a cumulative-sales milestone from the creator, so it should not be interpreted specifically as a publicly disclosed Steam-sales figure from Valve.
A Free Prequel DLC Will Fill In the Story Before the Game
To celebrate the milestone, CHARON plans to release a free prequel DLC.
The additional story takes place before the main game and will cover events that have not previously been depicted. Its focus characters, runtime, and choice structure have not yet been disclosed.
A release date will be announced later.
The Prequel Will Be Darker and More Graphic
One of the largest differences concerns how directly violence is depicted.
CHARON previously explained that the base game intentionally restrained direct blood and violence, in part because children appear in the story and to make the game easier to cover in livestreams and videos.
The prequel will go further. Nekofuji explicitly says it is planned to contain stronger violence, blood, and cruel depictions, allowing the DLC to explore a darker side of Haruake.
Three Students and 16 Endings Form the Main Story
The base game places players in the role of a teacher dealing with three students who have stopped coming to school: Nanatsu Kokorome, Nyako Maigo, and Ajimi Konoha.
Each girl carries different problems, secrets, and patterns of dependency. The player's words and decisions about how deeply the teacher becomes involved shape how those relationships develop.
Each heroine has five endings. Completing all 15 regular endings unlocks an additional Teacher Route, bringing the final total to 16.
Package-Edition Owners Will Also Receive the DLC
The announcement is not limited to players who buy the digital Steam version directly.
CHARON says owners of the physical package edition are also expected to receive the DLC at no extra charge through the Steam key included in the package.
The package edition is currently available for preorder through CHARON's official store alongside an official setting book and limited box set.
The Introductory Sale Is Still Running
Spring at Dawn, I Am a Monster officially launched in Japan on August 20, 2026 and remains under a 20% introductory discount.
The U.S. price is currently US$7.99, down from US$9.99. Japan is ¥1,080 from ¥1,350, while Indonesia is Rp75,599 from Rp94,499.
The promotion is scheduled to end on September 2, 2026.
Why This Matters
1) The sales milestone arrived quickly for CHARON
Crossing 1,000 cumulative copies in around a week is described as launch momentum the creator had not seen since two CHARON projects released in 2018.
2) The reward is new narrative content
Rather than a cosmetic bonus, the free DLC is a prequel designed to expand the story and fill in events that were previously left unseen.
3) The prequel can explore horror the main game deliberately restrained
The base game keeps direct violence relatively controlled, while the DLC is explicitly being designed to enter darker and more graphic territory.
