Yamaha has officially announced VOCALOID7, with the new editor scheduled to launch on November 11, 2026. The transition will preserve access to the existing catalog, as VOCALOID7 Editor supports every voicebank released for VOCALOID3 through VOCALOID6.
Crypton Future Media is also preparing a dedicated transition for Hatsune Miku V6. New Japanese and English voicebanks compatible with VOCALOID7 are currently in development and are planned to be distributed free of charge to all Hatsune Miku V6 users as early as possible in 2027.

VOCALOID7 and Hatsune Miku V6

VOCALOID3–6 Voicebanks Remain Compatible
One of Yamaha's most important announcements is backward compatibility. VOCALOID7 Editor can load voicebanks from VOCALOID3, VOCALOID4, VOCALOID5 and VOCALOID6.
Those older libraries do not automatically become seventh-generation voicebanks. Yamaha notes that pre-VOCALOID7 products continue to use the synthesis version corresponding to their original generation.
The result is a transition that lets creators keep existing voicebank libraries while moving to the new editor.
Hatsune Miku V6 Is Getting Dedicated VOCALOID7 Voicebanks
Crypton is going beyond basic backward compatibility for Hatsune Miku V6.
Together with Yamaha, it is developing new Japanese and English voicebanks specifically compatible with VOCALOID7. These are planned to be provided free to every Hatsune Miku V6 user as early as possible in 2027.
A precise date and distribution method have not been decided. Chinese support is also being developed, although its schedule remains unannounced.
Hatsune Miku V6 Bundles Will Switch Editors
VOCALOID7's arrival will also change what software is bundled with Hatsune Miku V6 products.
The regular Voicebank package will move from VOCALOID6 Editor Lite to VOCALOID7 Editor Lite, while the Starter Pack will replace the full VOCALOID6 Editor with VOCALOID7 Editor.
These changes are planned after VOCALOID7 launches.
Upgrade Options for Existing and New Users
VOCALOID7 Editor costs ¥16,500 in Japan or USD 129 before tax globally. The regular upgrade costs ¥8,580 or USD 69, with a launch promotion reducing it to ¥5,500 or USD 39 through December 20.
Customers purchasing products bundled with VOCALOID6 Editor from October 9 receive a coupon matching the promotional upgrade price, effectively allowing an eligible upgrade at no additional cost.
For Hatsune Miku V6 Starter Pack owners who purchased earlier, Crypton says the editor upgrade is expected to follow Yamaha's paid-upgrade model, while specific handling is still being discussed.
AI Megpoid Joins the New Generation
Alongside the editor announcement, INTERNET Co. opened pre-orders for VOCALOID7 Voicebank AI Megpoid.
Built from Megumi Nakajima's voice and optimized for VOCALOID7's AI technology, it offers eight selectable Voice Types: Native, Whisper, Cute, Downer, Power, Soft, Vivid and Ballade.
AI Megpoid launches alongside VOCALOID7 Editor on November 11.
Why This Matters
1) A new editor does not abandon old libraries
VOCALOID3–VOCALOID6 compatibility protects voicebank collections accumulated over many years.
2) Hatsune Miku V6 receives a dedicated upgrade path
Crypton is developing new V7-compatible Japanese and English voicebanks rather than relying only on backward compatibility.
3) VOCALOID7's biggest features are still under wraps
Yamaha has revealed pricing, compatibility, upgrade terms and early voicebanks, but the full feature set remains unannounced.

The largest unanswered question is the editor itself: Yamaha has not yet revealed the complete VOCALOID7 feature set, while Crypton has not confirmed the exact timing or delivery method for the 2027 Miku updates.
