The August 25 Launch Is No Longer Happening

Sekai Project previously announced August 25, 2026 as the release date for Watamari Part2.

That date has now been abandoned. Takii Noame says the launch will move back by around two months, but no replacement date has been provided.

The Steam store currently lists only 2026 as its release window.

That distinction matters: simply adding two months to August 25 should not be treated as confirmation of a late-October launch. The developer has given an approximate delay, not a finalized calendar date.

The playable Steam demo also remains available while development and release preparations continue.

The Developer Says a Bank Refused to Handle Steam Sales Proceeds

The unusual part of this delay is that the publicly stated problem is operational rather than a conventional development setback.

Takii Noame says the handling of Steam sales proceeds was refused by a bank.

About a month was then spent on emergency measures, but the issue remained unresolved and ultimately began affecting release preparations.

Public information remains limited. The developer has not identified:

  • the bank involved
  • the specific account or transaction affected
  • the reason supplied by the bank
  • whether only Steam-related transfers are affected
  • whether publisher Sekai Project is facing the same issue
  • whether the situation has any connection to the game's content

For that reason, it would be premature to describe the incident as censorship, payment-processor pressure, or a restriction specifically targeting yuri games.

At present, the confirmed information is limited to the developer's statement that a banking problem involving Steam revenue has disrupted the release schedule.

Players Act as Angels Rather Than the Heroines

Watamari Part2 separates itself from a conventional visual novel by refusing to place the player directly inside either heroine.

The central story follows Yata Hime, an agent infiltrating St. Leanne Girl's Academy to investigate its secrets.

Another spy, Hoshino Hikari, transfers into the academy and makes a careless remark that threatens their cover. Hime responds by pretending that the two are romantically involved.

Things become much less fake when Hikari accidentally uses a charm ability and Hime genuinely falls for her.

The player enters the story as an imaginary angel summoned by Yakumo Nene, the academy's resident problem student who secretly works to bring women together.

The angels propose choices and guide the cast, but the characters are not always obligated to obey. Their reactions can change the story and the routes that remain available.

Looking After Nene Is Part of the Job

The third-party perspective is central to Watamari Part2's design.

Players are not meant to replace Hime or Hikari, nor can they insert themselves into the couple's relationship. They instead act as a kind of unseen cupid.

Yakumo Nene communicates directly with the imaginary angels through internal dialogue.

Sekai Project also describes caring for Nene's mental wellbeing as part of the player's responsibility alongside guiding the heroines.

Nene has a VTuber-like persona as well, with her character presentation changing when she enters that mode. The idea gives the visual novel an additional meta layer beyond its branching romance.

The Demo Has Already Appeared at Steam Next Fest

Watamari Part2 participated in Steam Next Fest in June 2026.

Sekai Project released a dedicated demo and held a development livestream featuring Takii Noame and Yakumo Nene playing an updated build.

The full game currently lists interface and subtitle support for:

  • Japanese
  • English
  • Simplified Chinese

Japanese is the only language listed with full voice acting.

Steam lists a minimum storage requirement of 3 GB. Final pricing has not yet been revealed.

The game is a sequel to Watamari Part1 - A Match Made in Heaven, and the Steam page recommends completing the first title before beginning Part 2.

Why This Matters

1) The delay comes from business operations rather than a conventional production problem

The developer says the banking issue consumed enough time to interfere with preparations for launch.

2) There is still no safe replacement date

“About two months” is an estimate for the delay, not a confirmed new release date.

3) Its player perspective remains unusual for a romance visual novel

Players guide the couple from outside the relationship rather than becoming one of its participants.

4) The demo remains accessible

The delay does not remove the playable sample previously prepared for Steam Next Fest.
