Dead or Alive 6 Last Round is adding its new original fighter Minato on September 10, 2026. After appearing only briefly around Last Round's June launch, Koei Tecmo and PlayStation have now provided a much closer look at her background and unusual combat mechanics.
At first glance, Minato is simply a cheerful student attending school in Tokyo. Beneath that ordinary appearance, however, she is a world-class dance competition winner who can use an experimental contact-lens device developed by NiCO to physically reproduce techniques used by DEAD OR ALIVE tournament fighters.

Minato, the Launch Trailer and Steam

A Tokyo Student Who Won a World-Class Dance Competition on Her First Try
Team NINJA deliberately introduces Minato from an unusually ordinary starting point. She is a cheerful, outgoing student in Tokyo who, at first glance, hardly resembles someone expected to enter a DEAD OR ALIVE tournament.
There are nevertheless unexplained parts of her daily life. Minato lives alone away from her parents, and while her friends generally like her, they also find something mysterious about her.
Her physical abilities are anything but ordinary. Dancing began as a casual hobby intended to make both performers and spectators feel more positive, yet Minato entered a world-class dance competition and immediately won first place on her debut.
That achievement earned her the nickname “Tokyo JK.”
Around the same period, she began frequently disappearing after school and during weekends. Minato describes those absences as part-time work, but the true nature of that job has not been revealed.
NiCO's Contact Lens Lets Minato Replicate DOA Fighters' Techniques
The most distinctive part of Minato's gameplay comes from a contact lens-type device currently being developed by NiCO.
The technology converts the movements of other fighters into signals that Minato's body can physically reproduce. This lets her use techniques performed by participants in the DEAD OR ALIVE tournament.
Team NINJA does not present this ability as a single conventional martial-arts discipline. Minato's fighting identity instead combines NiCO's technology, her extraordinary physical ability and the rhythm of a trained dancer.
She treats combat almost as another form of dance, resulting in visually striking attacks with frequent vertical and horizontal spins.
The copying concept therefore does not simply turn Minato into a duplicate of one existing character. Her dance background provides a distinct movement language around the borrowed techniques.
Minato Shuffle Is the Key to Her Combat Flow
One move receives particular emphasis: the Minato Shuffle.
It is a distinctive dance step that Minato can transition into directly from certain attacks. Once in the shuffle, players gain access to multiple powerful follow-up attacks.
Team NINJA designed Minato's basic toolset to be relatively approachable for newcomers. Her broad range of attacks and visually readable movement are intended to make her easy to pick up.
The Minato Shuffle adds another layer for players who want greater technical depth. Choosing follow-ups, responding to situations and building sequences from the dance step requires more creativity.
That gives Minato two levels of accessibility: straightforward tools for someone learning the character and more technical possibilities for experienced fighting-game players.
Minato's Connection to NiCO Still Hides a Larger Mystery
Minato's background is directly connected to NiCO, one of the series' key technology-focused characters.
Minato is occasionally seen talking with NiCO through her smartphone. Meanwhile, the M.I.S.T. cyberneticist has recently hired a part-time worker with an unusual codename for an unspecified experiment.
The official introduction deliberately places those two facts together without revealing every answer. The mysterious part-timer even treats NiCO like a best friend, worries about her and behaves unusually close to her—something NiCO herself does not understand.
The contact-lens device used by Minato is also being developed by NiCO, establishing their relationship as an important part of her character.
However, Team NINJA still keeps Minato's true identity, objective and the real nature of her part-time activities secret. Those details should therefore remain open questions rather than assumptions about the story.
Designed as a Newcomer-Friendly Character Outside Existing Factions
According to Yosuke Hayashi, one of Minato's core design goals was to create someone approachable even for players with little knowledge of DEAD OR ALIVE's long-running narrative.
The series includes characters tied to corporations, ninja clans, organizations and longstanding conflicts. Minato has deliberately not been placed directly inside one of those existing factions.
The only relationship revealed publicly is that she is NiCO's friend. Keeping her unaffiliated gives Team NINJA more freedom to move her through the story without immediately locking her into older political or factional dynamics.
The Japanese-student concept was chosen to convey freedom, approachability, positivity, future potential and growth.
Minato can therefore function as an entry point for newer players rather than requiring them to already understand every historical conflict involving DOATEC or M.I.S.T.
Minato Arrives September 10, While Her DLC Price Remains Unannounced
Minato's release date was first detailed in August. Team NINJA places her in Week 2 of the September DLC roadmap, with her character unlock scheduled for September 10, 2026.
PlayStation then published a much more detailed character and gameplay breakdown on September 9, immediately before her release.
One detail still missing is the price. The August announcement explicitly listed it as undecided, and the verified official roadmap has not yet displayed a specific Minato price.
It would therefore be inaccurate to infer her price from previously released costume packs or other character unlocks. The final amount should follow the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Steam listings once the DLC itself goes live.
Hayashi also closes the character introduction by describing Minato as the newest addition to the DOA world, “but not the last.” No next fighter, number of future characters or release timing has been announced yet, but the statement suggests Last Round's character support will continue beyond Minato.
Why This Matters
1) Her copying mechanic has a direct narrative explanation
Replicating other fighters' techniques is not presented only as a gameplay gimmick. NiCO's experimental contact lens connects the system directly to M.I.S.T.-related technology and the wider story.
2) Dance gives Minato her own identity
Her background affects her spins, movement rhythm and Minato Shuffle, preventing her from feeling like a character built only from reused moves.
3) She is designed for two levels of play
Her basic attacks are intended to be approachable for newcomers, while Minato Shuffle and its follow-ups provide a more technical system for experienced players.
4) Her debut creates several new story questions
Minato's part-time work, connection with NiCO, M.I.S.T.'s experiment and her real objective remain unresolved, leaving space for future narrative development.

Closing
Minato brings an unusual approach to a new DEAD OR ALIVE fighter. Rather than relying on a single standalone martial art, she combines a dancer's physical ability with NiCO's technology to reproduce other fighters' techniques, then builds her own identity around the Minato Shuffle.
She officially joins DEAD OR ALIVE 6 Last Round on September 10, 2026. Her DLC price, voice cast, complete profile and the truth behind her part-time work remain unrevealed, while the producer's closing comment indicates that Minato will not be Last Round's final new addition.
