MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA presented its first gameplay footage during TYPE-MOON TIMES Special Edition at FGO Fes. 2026 on August 2, 2026. The presentation introduced changes to Shiki Tohno, a new battle mechanic, and two control types designed around different approaches to play.

Announcement, Gameplay, Teaser PV, and Key Visual

Kinoko Nasu Writes Grand Scenario Mode
Grand Scenario Mode is the first newly announced mode from this gameplay presentation. Its scenario is written by Kinoko Nasu, the TYPE-MOON creator also credited for the original work behind MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA.
The developers have not explained whether it will follow one primary point of view, include branching paths, or connect the full roster through a single extended storyline. Its length, battle structure, and relationship to individual character stories also remain unannounced.
Shiki Tohno voice actor Ryosuke Kanemoto previously said that his recording sessions took approximately five days to one week. However, it has not been confirmed how much of that dialogue belongs specifically to Grand Scenario Mode.
Act and Duel Offer Two Control Approaches
TWI-LUMINA includes two control types named Act and Duel. Act allows characters to dash with a single forward input rather than requiring a repeated directional command.
Act also provides simpler access to special moves through one-button inputs. It is designed to let players begin using movement and attacks without immediately learning every traditional command.
Duel retains command-based controls. Players familiar with MELTY BLOOD and other fighting games can continue using directional and button combinations to perform their techniques.
The Rapid Beat system has also been updated. Combos initiated through repeated button presses were shown with more possible routes than in its previous implementation.
Gauntlet Consumes the Lumina Gauge
The new Gauntlet mechanic consumes the Lumina Gauge located below the health bar. During the demonstration, it appeared as a powerful advancing attack capable of overcoming an incoming strike and knocking the opponent away.
It may provide a way to reverse pressure or create distance, although its exact cost, activation rules, and available counterplay have not yet been fully explained.
TWI-LUMINA is also revising its large cinematic attacks. Arc Drive and Last Arc animations are being polished across the full character roster.
Shiki Tohno Receives a Projectile Attack
Shiki Tohno appears with a revised design, new movements, and updated animations. One of his most significant additions is a projectile attack, which was not a central part of his fighting style in TYPE LUMINA.
The gameplay also showed a special pre-battle expression when Shiki faces Arcueid Brunestud. This interaction indicates that character-specific presentation remains part of the experience outside the central mechanics.
Mash Kyrielight is returning after appearing as an additional fighter in MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA. Len, a character associated with dreams in the wider Tsukihime series, is the first newly announced fighter for TWI-LUMINA.
First Demo Planned for Tokyo Game Show 2026
The first public demo of MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA will be available at the Aniplex booth during Tokyo Game Show 2026, scheduled for September 17–21 at Makuhari Messe.
The playable lineup for the exhibition build has not been announced. The FGO Fes. presentation showed only four characters from the version currently in development.
The full game is planned for early 2027. Its exact date, price, physical editions, purchase bonuses, and preorder schedule remain unannounced.
Why This Matters
1) Kinoko Nasu is directly handling the new story mode
Grand Scenario Mode may provide a broader narrative structure than separate character episodes, although its final format has not been revealed.
2) Act and Duel serve different players
Act provides more accessible inputs, while Duel maintains traditional command controls for players seeking the established fighting-game approach.
3) Shiki gains a new ranged option
A projectile could change how Shiki controls space and forces movement instead of relying almost entirely on close-range approaches.
4) Gauntlet creates another use for the Lumina Gauge
Players may need to choose between Gauntlet and other resource-dependent options when deciding how to escape pressure or continue an attack.
5) The TGS demo will provide the first hands-on opportunity
Act, Duel, Gauntlet, Rapid Beat, and the revised characters can be tested before the game's planned early 2027 release.
