Newtype December 2026 Cover Featuring Magic Knight Rayearth

New Cover Artwork Brings the Three Magic Knights Together

On November 4, 2026, Newtype's official editorial account announced that Magic Knight Rayearth would headline the magazine's December issue as both its cover title and lead feature.

The artwork places Hikaru Shidou, recognizable by her pink hair, in the foreground. Umi Ryuuzaki appears to the left with long blue hair, while Fuu Hououji stands to the right with blonde hair. All three wear costumes associated with their familiar character designs.

The bright composition is accompanied by Newtype's prominent pink logo across the upper portion. The editorial announcement describes the newly drawn illustration through the themes of light, sea, and wind, reflecting the identities of the three protagonists.

The illustration serves as the issue's central promotional artwork. However, the available announcement does not specify the artist responsible for drawing the cover.

Interviews with the Magic Knight Rayearth Cast and Staff

The issue's lead feature includes interviews with the three principal voice actors of the latest Magic Knight Rayearth anime: Ayane Sakura as Hikaru Shidou, Rumi Ookubo as Umi Ryuuzaki, and Rie Takahashi as Fuu Hououji.

Mika Kikuchi, who voices Mokona, is also listed among the interviewees. Together, the four actors form part of the magazine's special coverage of the newest adaptation of CLAMP's fantasy series.

On the production side, Newtype features Yui Miura, the anime's director; Satomi Watanabe, its character designer and chief animation director; and Yuuki Mutaguchi, responsible for Mashin mechanical design and direction.

The feature also includes opening and ending theme performers Toaka and Kawaguchi Yurina, alongside composers Yuki Kajiura, Takumi Ozawa, and Shiho Terada. While the interview lineup has been confirmed, the complete discussions have not yet been published ahead of the magazine's release.

B2 Poster Bonus and Additional Newtype Features

Alongside its cover artwork, Newtype has confirmed that the December 2026 issue includes a Magic Knight Rayearth B2 poster using the same illustration.

KADOKAWA's official contents also list a B2 poster featuring Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi. Meanwhile, the magazine's pin-up selections include My Happy Marriage Special Edition and Girls und Panzer das Finale Part 5.

The issue features interviews and coverage related to several other anime productions, including Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, Armored Trooper Votoms: Haiiro no Majo, Ranma 1/2 Season 3, Black Clover 2nd Season, and The Apothecary Diaries Season 3.

Newtype also continues The Five Star Stories by Mamoru Nagano and introduces a new manga serialization, Princess Friends: Unmei no Tomodachi, Mitsuketa!, by Aki Hamaji. The complete printed issue contains 154 pages and carries an official price of 930 yen.

The New Magic Knight Rayearth Anime Is Now Airing in Japan

The Magic Knight Rayearth cover feature arrives while the series' latest television anime adaptation is already broadcasting in Japan.

Based on CLAMP's original manga, the new anime premiered on October 7, 2026, on the TV Asahi network under the IMAnimation W programming block. Its main broadcast slot is Wednesday at 11:45 PM Japan Standard Time, with two consecutive cours planned.

The story follows Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, three schoolgirls who are unexpectedly transported from Tokyo Tower to the fantasy world of Cephiro. There, they discover that Princess Emeraude has been captured and the world is facing a crisis.

The latest adaptation is animated by E&H production, with Yui Miura directing, Shigeru Murakoshi overseeing series composition, and Satomi Watanabe handling character design. Newtype's interviews provide fans with an opportunity to learn more about the cast and staff behind this new version.

Why This Matters

1) New artwork adds collectible appeal

The newly illustrated cover featuring Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu gives Magic Knight Rayearth fans another official piece of artwork. The matching B2 poster also increases the appeal of the printed magazine for collectors.

2) Interviews cover several aspects of production

Newtype brings together the main voice actors, director, character designer, mechanical designer, and musicians. This selection offers readers an opportunity to explore the anime's production from different creative perspectives.

3) The feature arrives during the anime's broadcast

The December 2026 issue will be published after the latest anime has already premiered. Its interviews therefore arrive while Japanese audiences can actively follow the new television adaptation.
