RainyDollGames has opened the Steam page for its new horror game Meikyū Jinja (迷宮神社) on August 31, 2026. The project is designed as a Japanese horror experience playable either solo or cooperatively with up to four players.

This time, the labyrinth is no longer a school or pyramid like some of RainyDollGames' previous games. Players pass through a torii gate into an otherworldly maze whose layout changes between runs, then work together to escape while avoiding the supernatural entities wandering inside.

A Torii Gate Leads Into an Otherworldly Labyrinth

Meikyū Jinja begins with players passing through a torii gate and entering a labyrinth located in another realm. The shrine-inspired setting immediately distinguishes it from School Labyrinth and Unknown Pyramid.

The space beyond the gate is not a fixed dungeon. Its layout is randomly generated between playthroughs, meaning a previously safe route may no longer exist in the same form during the next run.

The Labyrinth Changes Every Run

Random generation is one of the clearest mechanics confirmed so far. Both Steam's description and RainyDollGames' announcement emphasize that the labyrinth changes whenever players begin another session.

That structure prevents players from relying entirely on memorizing a single map. Each run requires another assessment of the environment, possible routes and the supernatural threats moving through it.

Play Solo or Cooperatively With Up to Four Players

Meikyū Jinja supports 1–4 players, with online co-op already listed on Steam. Although cooperation is central to its promotional pitch, single-player is also available.

The objective remains to escape without being caught by the entities inside the labyrinth. RainyDollGames has not yet detailed whether party members will have different roles, equipment or abilities.

Not Every Entity Is Something You Only Run From

Steam's description specifically says players will run from, hide from and sometimes confront the supernatural entities within the labyrinth.

That wording suggests the threat design is not built exclusively around chase and stealth. However, no detailed combat system, weapons, items or exact confrontation mechanics have been announced yet.

Steam Already Includes a First PV and Early Feature List

The Steam page already contains a First PV and early gameplay assets. The current prerelease listing targets Windows and includes single-player, multiplayer, online co-op, Steam Cloud and partial controller support.

Language metadata currently lists Japanese for the interface and subtitles. English and other languages are not presently listed, leaving the final localization scope open for future updates.

RainyDollGames Returns to Randomized Labyrinth Horror

Meikyū Jinja shares design DNA with earlier RainyDollGames projects without being announced as a direct sequel. Unknown Pyramid used a randomized maze for roguelike horror, while School Labyrinth brought the formula to a nighttime school with support for up to four players.

Meikyū Jinja retains the dynamic maze and multiplayer ideas while moving into a shrine and supernatural setting. RainyDollGames has not identified it as a direct continuation of School Labyrinth's story.

Why This Matters

1) A shrine replaces the school as the horror centerpiece

RainyDollGames is moving its randomized-maze formula into another distinctly Japanese setting built around torii gates and supernatural spaces.

2) Procedural layouts can reshape every run

Players cannot depend entirely on memorized routes because the labyrinth changes between sessions.

3) Co-op is not mandatory

Up to four players are supported, but Steam also lists single-player for those who want to enter the labyrinth alone.

4) The entities are not always purely chase threats

The official description allows for running, hiding and occasionally confronting them, suggesting more varied survival situations.
