The Seven Mysteries and Cursed Doll Aya Drive the Horror

The story takes place at U High School, an institution already surrounded by its own Seven Mysteries.

Beyond those stories, students whisper about an even more dangerous urban legend: performing a particular ritual will cause Cursed Doll Aya to appear and kill the person targeted by the curse.

A student named Yuriko attempts to determine whether that legend is real. Material on Steam explains that she tried several different rituals on herself before seeing Aya in a dream.

Yuriko even leaves behind a request asking someone to solve the mystery if she really does suffer a strange death.

After her diary reaches her bereaved family and eventually the Journalism Club, Seira, Hime and Tae decide to investigate. Their search takes them into U High School at midnight, where a forbidden ritual draws the group into a nightmare that refuses to end.

Death Is Information Rather Than a Simple Game Over

The most distinctive part of Noroi Ayashi is the way it treats death.

The publisher openly describes surviving a first encounter as virtually impossible. Players are expected to fail, die and carry what they have learned into the next attempt.

A death may reveal a threat, timing requirement, dead end, clue location or procedure that was impossible to understand beforehand.

The next iteration can then remove wasted movement and optimize the route through the school.

This is what gives the official “RTA” genre label practical meaning. Progress involves constructing increasingly efficient runs based on knowledge accumulated across previous loops until the player can finally move through the school without repeating the same fatal mistakes.

Every Seven Mystery Has Its Own Survival Rules

The supernatural phenomena inside U High School are not presented as threats that can all be handled with a single mechanic.

Game Source Entertainment states that every Seven Mystery has its own avoidance method and sealing procedure.

Exploration therefore involves more than simply finding an exit.

Players must determine the rules governing each anomaly: when to avoid it, what triggers danger, which clues are required and how the phenomenon can ultimately be sealed.

That structure makes observation and puzzle solving potentially just as important as stealth.

The trailer also presents the school from an elevated perspective, showing dark corridors, classrooms, interactive objects and situations where Seira's position relative to something pursuing her appears critical.

Seira Enters With Friends but Eventually Finds Herself Alone

Steam directly introduces three members of the Journalism Club.

Seira is the heroine. She investigates the mysterious death of a close friend alongside other club members, but eventually becomes separated from them and finds herself alone inside the school building at night.

Hime is described as headstrong and wayward, someone who follows her own instincts. Rumors at school also claim that she is involved in compensated dating, although the complete context behind those rumors has not yet been explained.

Tae is the Journalism Club president with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. She appears to be a model student who constantly smiles, but the official profile deliberately leaves the deeper side of her personality unfinished.

Yuriko, meanwhile, remains important through the diary that motivates the investigation into Aya. Her complete relationship with the group and the exact circumstances of her fate remain part of the mystery.

Rensuke Oshikiri and Sohei Niikawa Join the Development Team

Steam places Rensuke Oshikiri and Sohei Niikawa / Roman Kitayama within its Development Team section.

Oshikiri is widely recognized for Hi Score Girl, but much of his catalogue is closely connected to horror. Works such as Misumisou, Sayuri and other supernatural or psychological horror manga make his involvement particularly relevant to this project.

Niikawa previously worked at Nippon Ichi Software and contributed to titles including Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, Disgaea and Hayarigami: Keishicho Kaii Jiken File. He went independent in 2022 and also writes under the name Roman Kitayama, including Etrange Overlord.

Steam currently lists Superniche LLC and Clover Lab.,inc. as developers.

The Japanese press release presents the credits slightly differently: its product table names Clover Lab as the developer while the copyright belongs to SuperNiche LLC. Both are therefore recorded according to their respective official sources rather than assigning unannounced internal roles.

Coming in 2027 for Steam, Switch and Switch 2

Noroi Ayashi is scheduled for 2027 on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

No launch month or date has been announced.

Pricing, preorders, physical editions, purchase bonuses, an age rating and any potential demo also remain unannounced.

The Steam page is already open for wishlisting and lists Single-player, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, Stats and Family Sharing.

Language information currently contains one unresolved difference. The publisher's press release lists Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese as planned display languages, while the Steam listing visible during verification currently shows only English and Japanese for interface and subtitles.

Because the store page can still change before the 2027 launch, both sets of information are recorded without treating the current Steam list as final.

Why This Matters

1) Death is deliberately turned into an information system

Failure does not simply reset progress; every death can teach the player how the school works and improve the next route.

2) The Seven Mysteries do not share one universal solution

Each phenomenon has its own avoidance and sealing rules, forcing players to learn every threat independently.

3) The creative team has deep connections to Japanese horror and games

Rensuke Oshikiri brings a long history of horror manga, while Sohei Niikawa has experience with projects including Hayarigami and Japanese RPG development.

4) RTA concepts are being used as part of horror design

The goal is not only to solve mysteries, but to become progressively more efficient after learning what caused previous deaths.
