CASCHA GAMES has made the free Otherealm demo available through Steam, giving players their first hands-on experience with the next major entry in the Parallel universe. The demo is designed as an approximately 90-minute standalone experience based on the full game's first chapter, with its pacing and structure reworked into a more focused introduction.
Otherealm follows high school student Josie, who awakens inside a horrifying alternate version of DYL High. The building is changing around her, black fog covers the school, faceless students wander its halls, and escaping appears to require understanding its strange rules and the mysterious Trial of God.

Demo, Steam and Gameplay Screenshots

The 90-Minute Demo Is Built From Chapter 1
CASCHA GAMES has not simply taken the opening section of the full game and released it unchanged. The free version is described as a standalone experience based on Chapter 1's story and gameplay, with its structure and pacing redesigned to form a more complete introduction.
Its estimated playtime is approximately 90 minutes. Players still experience the opening narrative and core gameplay systems, but in a tighter format than the chapter's eventual full-game presentation.
CASCHA GAMES also sees the demo as the first opportunity to put Otherealm's new gameplay direction directly into players' hands. Feedback about bugs, puzzles and design choices is intended to influence continuing development.
Josie Awakens in a Transformed DYL High
The story begins when Josie, a high school student, experiences a strange dream and finds herself inside a version of DYL High that bears little resemblance to the school she remembers.
The building is shaken and collapsing, black fog fills the environment, and formerly familiar students wander the halls without visible faces. Flesh and concrete have even merged into an unnatural structure that appears to keep growing and mutating.
Survival requires Josie to understand the rules governing the place. In the full game's premise, the only offered path to freedom is completing the Trial of God, although the story also raises the possibility of rejecting those rules entirely.
Exploration, Puzzles, Survival and Choices Drive the Game
Otherealm represents a substantial gameplay evolution from the earlier Parallel titles, which were much closer to conventional visual novels.
Players move through different school areas themselves, interact with the environment, search for clues, collect items and combine fragmented information to solve puzzles. The full game also describes random events that can be triggered while investigating certain locations.
Danger adds pressure beyond puzzle solving. Steam describes chase sequences and, in the full game, timed QTEs during critical moments where failed inputs can bring serious consequences.
Choices remain fundamental to Parallel's design. Exploration methods, major actions and decisions can alter relationships, expose different information and ultimately affect who survives and which ending is reached.
Otherealm Opens a New Chapter for Parallel
Otherealm remains part of Parallel, a horror universe that began with black-and-white comic stories before expanding into interactive works with CASCHA GAMES.
Three major interactive titles came before it: Ghost in the Pool, Concealed and Weirdo. Each tells a separate story, but all share DYL High and are connected through timelines, characters and incidents.
CASCHA GAMES describes Otherealm not as the end of Parallel, but as the beginning of a new stage. The studio is retaining the suspense-driven storytelling of its earlier work while expanding toward environmental exploration, investigation, puzzles, survival systems and more active branching choices.
New players can enter Otherealm without playing the earlier trilogy, while returning players may recognize traces and unresolved connections from the previous stories.
The Japanese Localization Uses Kansai Dialect
One especially unusual detail on the Japanese Steam page is its extensive use of Kansai-ben.
Rather than using the neutral standard Japanese commonly found on store pages, descriptions of the story, gameplay systems and other elements use noticeably conversational Kansai phrasing.
Denfaminicogamer also highlighted the localization choice, noting the dialect's appearance throughout screenshots and store material. The underlying information remains the same: supernatural school horror built around exploration, puzzles, survival and consequential decisions.
Otherealm currently supports five languages: English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean.
The Full Game Is Still TBA
The full Otherealm Steam page currently lists its release date as To Be Announced, so there is no final launch date that should be treated as locked.
When the game was formally introduced in July 2026, CASCHA GAMES said its plan at the time was to launch the full version in the second half of 2027. The studio also planned to participate in Steam Next Fest in October 2026, following the public demo's early-September release.
Because the current Steam store has not adopted the 2027 window as a final release date, that period is best treated as the developer's earlier development target, not a confirmed launch schedule.
For now, players can try the demo and wishlist the full game while waiting for the next development updates after Steam Next Fest.
Why This Matters
1) Parallel is moving beyond the traditional visual-novel format
Otherealm keeps the series' branching storytelling while introducing much more active exploration, investigation, puzzle solving and survival.
2) The demo is built as a dedicated experience
Its roughly 90 minutes are not simply an untouched slice of Chapter 1; the pacing and structure were reworked specifically for the demo.
3) DYL High remains the universe's central connection
The school seen throughout Parallel returns as the heart of the story, now transformed into a constantly changing supernatural environment.
4) Choices still carry consequences
Despite the expanded gameplay, player decisions remain central to relationships, routes, discoveries and eventual endings.
