The Next Trailer Premieres During Opening Night Live
NEKCOM says the latest Showa American Story trailer will make its world debut during gamescom Opening Night Live.
The official opening show begins at Koelnmesse on August 25 at 8:00 p.m. CEST, which places the broadcast at 3:00 a.m. JST on August 26.
NEKCOM has not revealed a title, runtime, or detailed description for the new video.
That means there is currently no confirmation that it will reveal the final release date, additional characters, new locations, or another specific announcement.
What is confirmed is that it represents the game's newest trailer and will debut as part of one of gamescom's largest broadcasts.
With Showa American Story still targeting a 2026 launch, the appearance gives NEKCOM a major stage to show where development stands as the game moves closer to release.
42 Demo Stations and 30-Minute Sessions
The game is not coming to gamescom as a trailer-only showcase.
NEKCOM is preparing 42 playable stations for visitors during the main event.
Each session can last up to 30 minutes.
Rather than putting every visitor through the same linear demo, the build offers four separate scenarios, each highlighting a different part of the game.
Players can decide whether they want to focus on story and combat, character development inside the RV, environmental exploration, or a boss fight.
If enough time remains after completing the first selection, visitors may be able to experience additional scenarios.
Demo participants are also set to receive a limited goods set, with additional secret commemorative items planned around the event area.
Four Scenarios Cover Story, Exploration, the RV, and a Boss Fight
The first scenario focuses on story and combat.
Taken from Chapter 3, it follows Chouko as she heads toward the Shin-Yokohama mountain area while searching for her sister and becomes involved in a confrontation with an armed group.
The second scenario moves away from direct combat and into Chouko's RV base.
Players can see how rest, character growth, Living Activities, vehicle customization, and related progression systems work.
The third is built around stage exploration in the shopping district at the foot of Shin-Yokohama mountain.
Chouko needs to obtain permission to continue toward the summit while interacting with local residents and facilities along the way.
The final selection skips directly to a boss battle.
Chouko follows one of the mysterious men dressed in black to the Golden Gate Bridge, where the fight unfolds under the moonlight.
Together, the four sections offer a broader snapshot of the RPG than a demo focused entirely on its action combat.
Showa 66 Imagines an America Transformed by Japan
Showa American Story takes place in an intentionally exaggerated alternate history.
By Showa 66, Japan's economic power has grown to the point where it has purchased most of the United States.
Large-scale Japanese immigration then embeds Japanese culture throughout American society.
Rather than one culture simply replacing the other, the two collide and merge into a new environment referred to as “Showa America.”
That strange society is eventually devastated by a mysterious catastrophe.
Social order collapses, zombies and monsters roam the country, and the remaining human survivors form groups with different beliefs and agendas.
The game builds its visual identity by mixing Japanese and American 1980s imagery with deliberately excessive B-movie sensibilities, dark humor, exaggerated violence, and larger-than-life situations.
Chouko Comes Back From the Dead
At the center of the story is Chouko, a 19-year-old stuntwoman.
She and her sister travel to Neo Yokohama, the alternate-history name for Hollywood, hoping to audition for an action movie.
Instead, Chouko is assassinated by a group of mysterious agents and her body is abandoned outside the city.
An unknown amount of time later, she suddenly returns to life.
The world around her has become almost unrecognizable, and her sister is missing.
Chouko sets out across America looking for answers: who killed her, why she came back to life, what happened to the world, and where her sister has gone.
The road trip therefore combines a family search with a revenge story and the larger mystery behind Showa America's collapse.
Combat and “Living Activities” Share the RPG's Focus
Showa American Story's combat combines melee weapons, firearms, dodging, abilities, and deliberately unconventional weaponry.
Chouko also awakens with a mysterious power after her resurrection, extending her capabilities beyond ordinary human combat.
Outside battle, her RV functions as a mobile home and base.
Resources collected through exploration and fighting can unlock weapons, costumes, collectibles, EXP, and other upgrades.
NEKCOM also describes a collection of systems as Living Activities, covering character growth, everyday activities, and nostalgic mini-games.
The gamescom demo confirms that this side of the RPG remains substantial, as one of the four scenarios is dedicated almost entirely to life and progression inside the RV.
Still Targeting 2026 for PS5, PS4, and Steam
Showa American Story remains scheduled for 2026, although its exact release date has not been announced.
The current official website lists PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam.
The Steam edition is available to wishlist and remains unreleased, with final pricing also unannounced.
Steam currently lists English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese among its supported text languages.
Current minimum PC requirements include Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-5575R, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 960, DirectX 11, and 50 GB of available storage.
Recommended specifications increase that to an Intel Core i7-4770K, 16 GB RAM, and GTX 1660 Ti while retaining the same storage requirement.
The Steam content notice includes blood, intense violence, partial nudity, sexual themes, strong language, and alcohol use.
Why This Matters
1) The new trailer arrives during the game's 2026 release window
Showa American Story has spent years in development, making a fresh appearance on a major international stage especially relevant as its current release year approaches its final months.
2) The demo is not built only around combat
Story, exploration, the RV progression loop, and a boss encounter are all represented as separate experiences.
3) Showa America remains visually unmistakable
Japanese-American cultural fusion, zombie apocalypse imagery, 1980s nostalgia, and B-movie excess give the RPG an identity that is difficult to confuse with another post-apocalyptic game.
4) The current build is playable by the public
With 42 stations and 30-minute sessions, gamescom visitors are getting direct hands-on access rather than simply watching the new footage.
