Reveal, Gameplay Preview, and Screenshots

Taegwido Was Born From the Collapse of the Six Realms
The story takes place on Taegwido, an island formed after Agasa shattered the boundaries separating the Six Realms in an attempt to break the wheel of reincarnation.
Players become one of six Seekers searching Taegwido and its rifts for scattered Sources capable of restoring the cycle of reincarnation and bringing order back to the world.
KRAFTON and Boundary combine Buddhist concepts such as the Six Realms and karma with mythology, folklore, temples, ruins, shamanic rituals, dokkaebi, yōkai, and broader East Asian cultural influences.
Six Classes Draw From East Asian Traditions
Boundary has designed six classes with their own weapons, resources, and underlying combat mechanics.
The Samurai switches between three stances, while the Chakhogapsa uses firearms, traps, and companions such as a falcon, Sapsali dog, or monkey. The Feng Shui Master manipulates the Five Elements for large-area attacks.
The roster also includes the Tugwi, Kunoichi, and Mansin, drawing respectively from martial combat, ninja traditions, and Korean shamanism.
Builds Go Beyond Simply Collecting Better Loot
Each class can be developed through combinations of class skills, traits, support skills, and unique equipment.
Progression incorporates the Five Elements, the balance of Yin and Yang, karma, and reincarnation into its build choices. Boundary's goal is for a single class to support substantially different playstyles depending on player decisions.
The gamescom demo used characters at roughly level 30, placing players directly into a mid-game build rather than starting with introductory skills.
Bosses Are Designed Around Patterns, Not Just Numbers
Despite the obvious visual similarities to hack-and-slash games, Boundary specifically describes TARAE as an action RPG and wants player execution to remain important.
The developer says the game is being built with more than 80 types of bosses, featuring attack patterns, battlefield mechanics, and multiple phases that need to be learned. Dodging and countering at the right moment are intended to matter alongside character builds.
Horde combat forms the other half of the system, using chained attacks and strong hit feedback to make clearing large groups of enemies feel immediately responsive.
All Six Seekers Remain Part of One Story
Choosing one class does not split the game into six completely separate campaigns.
Boundary says all six Seekers travel together through the main narrative and continue appearing in cutscenes and major story moments. Their pasts, wounds, motivations, and individual karma gradually become clearer during the journey.
Switching to another playable class generally means developing that character separately, although the team is exploring endgame systems that would avoid forcing players to replay the entire single-player campaign from zero.
Boundary Is Targeting a 2027 Release
Boundary was formed around developers with previous experience on UNDECEMBER, including Executive Producer In-young Koo, Art Director Byung-ho Park, and Creative Director Myung-sang Yoo.
The current development team is reportedly around 110 people. In interviews at gamescom, Boundary said it is targeting a 2027 release.
That target has not yet become an official storefront date, however. Steam and PlayStation Store still list the release timing as undetermined.
Why This Matters
1) Eastern dark fantasy informs the systems, not just the art
Classes, monsters, worldbuilding, karma, the Five Elements, and reincarnation all draw from East Asian traditions and mythology.
2) Combat is trying to balance builds with mechanical skill
Loot and character construction still matter, but bosses are being designed around pattern recognition, dodging, counters, and player execution rather than statistics alone.
3) The six classes have genuinely different combat loops
Each class uses its own resources and mechanics, from the Samurai's stance switching to the Chakhogapsa's firearm-and-companion setup.
