Oni no Moribito (鬼の守り人) has received another development update, with creator Azumi Hisa sharing a clip from an early event scene on September 12, 2026. The footage offers another look at how story scenes will connect the exploration and combat portions of this Japanese-inspired 3D action RPG.
The project is being developed individually under ろじうら倶楽部 and remains scheduled for a 2026 Steam release. Beyond naginata combat and special moves, the game is designed as a relatively compact 4–6 hour adventure with four difficulty settings and a dress-up system containing six costume types overall.

Trailer, Steam and Gameplay

The New Clip Shows an Event Scene From Early in the Game
The developer's latest post shows a section of an early Oni no Moribito event scene, offering another glimpse at how story sequences will sit between exploration and combat.
That matters because dialogue and character interaction have been part of the game's pitch since its Steam page was first introduced. Earlier material described its anime-style conversations as intentionally easy to follow, with character exchanges forming a meaningful part of Chiho's journey.
The September 12 footage is not being presented as a major trailer or as a new release-date announcement. It is better understood as a development update showing another area of the project currently being worked on.
Because an exact status URL for the new post could not be reliably located through public indexing at verification time, no fabricated X embed has been added.
Chiho Itsutsuno Enters Nabari-no-Miya to Stop Kamimadoi
Oni no Moribito centers on Chiho Itsutsuno, the head of the prestigious Itsutsuno family in Takakumo City.
Beyond the outskirts stands Mount Kumokami, a mountain affected for generations by a mysterious phenomenon known as Kamimadoi. Whenever it occurs, a strange structure called Nabari-no-Miya suddenly appears on the summit.
Its appearance causes monsters to descend toward human settlements.
The Itsutsuno family has therefore taken on an important duty: whenever Nabari-no-Miya appears, a family member enters the structure and defeats the master hidden deep inside.
Once that master falls, Nabari-no-Miya disappears and the monsters vanish with it.
This time, the responsibility belongs to Chiho.
The Action Is Designed to Stay Simple Without Being Limited
Accessibility has been one of the project's stated design goals from the beginning.
Steam describes the controls as simple and says the game is intended to be suitable even for players who are not confident with action games.
Normal Attacks can chain into up to four consecutive strikes.
Special Moves consume Spirit Energy for heavier damage, while the Jump Slam Attack creates a shockwave capable of damaging enemies around the impact point.
Chiho also has access to a double jump, a dodge with a brief invincibility window, and a dash for faster traversal.
Four difficulty settings—Easy, Normal, Hard and Aragaburu-kami—allow the player to adjust the challenge instead of making the experience exclusively for experienced action players.
A 4–6 Hour Runtime and Six Costumes Keep the Scope Focused
Oni no Moribito is not being positioned as a massive dozens-of-hours RPG.
Its Steam page openly lists an estimated 4–6 hour playtime, giving players a relatively clear sense of the scale being targeted by the solo developer.
The game also includes a dress-up system.
Six costume types are listed overall, including already shown outfits, with one entry described as a costume variation. The developer has also explicitly confirmed a swimsuit outfit.
Steam references that swimsuit in its mature-content description because of its higher skin exposure, but that description itself should not be treated as a formal age rating.
The costume system therefore works as an additional personalization feature without changing the game's main action-RPG focus.
Solo Development Continues Toward a 2026 Steam Release
Famitsu previously reported Oni no Moribito as an individually developed project by Azumi Hisa, noting that development had already passed four years when the Steam page was announced in February 2025.
Since then, the game has continued to appear through development clips and indie-game events.
Steam currently lists ろじうら倶楽部 as both developer and publisher, with a 2026 release window.
A separate trial build has also been distributed through BOOTH. That version offers roughly 10–15 minutes of play and was released as a way to sample the fundamentals before the full game.
Oni no Moribito is also listed as an EAIGC 2026 title, while Japanese indie events have previously provided opportunities for players to try development builds.
A final launch date, Steam price and the possibility of another public Steam demo closer to release remain unannounced.
Why This Matters
1) It is a solo project aiming for a complete 3D campaign
Oni no Moribito is not presented as a brief prototype. Its planned 4–6 hour adventure includes cutscenes, multiple characters, 3D stages, boss battles and costume customization.
2) The action is intentionally accessible
Four difficulty settings and deliberately straightforward controls provide an entry point for players who enjoy anime-style action without demanding advanced mechanical proficiency.
3) Its Japanese fantasy identity goes beyond surface aesthetics
The naginata, Oni Princess, Itsutsuno family, Kamimadoi and Nabari-no-Miya create a specific fantasy setting rather than relying only on decorative Japanese imagery.
4) Development updates are still arriving close to the planned release window
The new event-scene clip shows that work is continuing not only on combat but also on narrative presentation ahead of the targeted 2026 launch.
