Sync City and Rampaging Workroids Drive the Story

OVER RUSH is set in Sync City, a futuristic city where humans coexist with AI robots known as Workroids.

The technology is intended to support everyday life, but some Workroids begin rampaging and endangering the public. A special unit known as R.U.S.H is formed to deal with those incidents.

Players take the role of that organization's Captain. Rather than working alone, the Captain is paired with a new generation of independently thinking Workroids referred to as Buddies.

The teaser PV presents several Buddies with different designs, personalities and combat styles. Their importance extends beyond the story because the selected Buddy directly affects the cards available and the strategy used during combat.

Four Cards Form the Foundation of an Extremely Fast Battle System

Despite using cards, OVER RUSH does not follow a slow turn-based structure where players have long periods to read every effect.

In the build shown to media, players keep four cards in hand and can continuously tap them to attack. Core cards are divided into red, blue and green categories.

The basic objective is easy to understand: building a four-card sequence forms the foundation for raising the Link Level.

If the fourth card is an appropriate Link Card, players can activate a Link Attack. In the preview build, a Link Attack could raise that card's effect to 500 percent.

The challenge is that cards cycle at high speed. Players must almost immediately decide which card to spend, which color to continue and when to transition into another sequence.

Counter and RUSH Mode Keep Players Watching More Than Their Hand

Card selection is not the only thing demanding attention.

Enemies telegraph incoming attacks. Reacting at the correct moment allows the player to perform a Counter, blocking the attack while dealing damage in return.

Counter timing matters because taking a hit can interrupt the current combo and reduce Link Level.

Players therefore need to monitor their hand while reading enemy movement. The result combines card selection with reactions more commonly associated with action or rhythm games.

Once Link Level reaches the required point, RUSH Mode can be activated. It increases attack power and attack speed, accelerating the stream of cards even further and letting players pressure enemies with very little downtime.

Buddies Determine Half the Deck

OVER RUSH does not use a completely unrestricted deck-building system.

In the media preview build, a deck contains 12 cards. Six are tied directly to the selected Buddy, while the player chooses the other six.

Those six flexible slots are evenly divided into two red cards, two blue cards and two green cards.

This limitation makes Buddy selection particularly important. Characters are not chosen only for appearance because their personal cards define half of the deck and significantly change how combat feels.

Preview coverage showed several examples. エール was presented as balanced, グリットハート specializes in Counter play, ルミノール changes depending on strengthening-program combinations, while フレア offers high damage at the cost of steadily losing HP.

A Wild Card can also preserve a combo when the next available card does not match the current color, letting players transition between colors without always rebuilding from zero.

Roguelike Progression Happens Between Battles

A stage in the preview build contains roughly three to four battles.

After clearing a fight, players choose an upgrade known as a strengthening program. Those choices shape the build for the remainder of that stage.

This is where OVER RUSH incorporates its roguelike or roguelite structure. One run can develop differently from another depending on available upgrades and the chosen Buddy.

NHN PlayArt is nevertheless emphasizing that players should not need to memorize complicated card-game rules before they can begin enjoying combat.

The idea is to start with fast, intuitive play and gradually open up deeper optimization through deck composition, upgrades, Counter timing and combo management as players become more comfortable.

The Open Beta Runs for One Week and Is Mobile-Only

The OBT officially begins around 10:00 AM JST on September 17 and ends at 2:59 PM JST on September 24.

Participation is free, and the test targets iOS and Android. Although Steam is an officially announced final-release platform, PC is not listed as an OBT target this time.

On iOS, NHN PlayArt recommends an iPhone 12 or later, iOS 15.0 or above, and at least 4GB of RAM.

For Android, the recommendation is Android 11 or later, performance equivalent to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or better, and at least 8GB of RAM.

Both platforms require at least 5GB of free storage.

Players can register through the official OBT website or at the NHN PlayArt booth during Tokyo Game Show 2026. The app-download route is scheduled to open on September 17.

Survey Participants Receive a Post-Launch Reward

The OBT is being conducted for more than early access.

NHN PlayArt plans to use it to test server load, adjust game balance and collect feedback ahead of the full release.

Anyone who completes the survey will receive an in-game item redemption code that can be used after OVER RUSH officially launches.

The code will be sent to the registered email address. The survey closes at 11:59 PM JST on September 24, several hours after the OBT server is scheduled to shut down.

Because the OBT uses a development build, features and balance values available during testing may still change before launch.

TGS 2026 Offers Another Way to Play Before Release

The OBT begins on the same day as Tokyo Game Show 2026.

NHN PlayArt is bringing OVER RUSH to Hall 2 S08 at Makuhari Messe, where visitors can try the high-speed card battle system and use a photo spot featuring life-size character panels.

The booth will also distribute character masks, while trial-play and photo activities can lead to an original-card gacha. Participants receive three random cards from ten designs, with some cards potentially containing prize-exchange tickets.

OVER RUSH also has stage programming. On September 20 at 12:45 PM, producer Kota Terada will appear to introduce the game alongside the event MCs.

Another program begins September 21 at 10:00 AM, featuring Terada alongside singer/composer Amagi Seira and NHN PlayArt sound-team members Poyochi and DJYakumaru, including a special mini-live performance.

Why This Matters

1) Its card combat deliberately avoids a slow pace

Rather than giving players long periods to inspect their cards, OVER RUSH asks them to make decisions while continuously attacking and responding with real-time Counters.

2) The four-card foundation is simple but leaves room for optimization

Four-card sequences, Link Attacks, Wild Cards and Link Level provide an immediately understandable objective while still creating room for more efficient combo building.

3) Buddies are more than collectible characters

Half of the deck comes from the selected Buddy, meaning that changing characters also changes available cards and overall play style.

4) The OBT arrives at exactly the same time as TGS

Mobile players can enter the test beginning September 17, while Makuhari Messe attendees can play OVER RUSH at NHN PlayArt's booth during the same period.

Closing

The final game remains scheduled for this coming winter on iOS, Android and Steam. Its exact launch date and final content details are still unannounced, and gameplay systems or balance values seen during the OBT may change before release.
