SLAM TANK is a new action game from South Korean developer Next Stage Inc. that takes tank combat in a distinctly unconventional direction. Instead of building its core around long-range shelling, the player's vehicle can spin its turret, swing the cannon barrel, ram opponents, and chain those moves together with drifts and unique abilities.
Its world has also been taken over by an AI controlling machines across the planet. Players destroy robots, heavy machinery and other weaponized machines, with the financial value of the destruction itself contributing to the score earned in each stage.

SLAM TANK on Steam

The Cannon Barrel Becomes a Close-Range Weapon
SLAM TANK's central idea becomes immediately clear through the way its tanks fight.
Steam says players can spin the turret, swing the cannon barrel and ram directly through enemy ranks, chaining those actions with drifting, attacks and each tank's individual abilities.
Early material even shows movement that feels much closer to a character-action game than a traditional tank simulation.
AUTOMATON highlights one maneuver in which the vehicle appears to balance around its barrel while rapidly spinning the tank's body to strike nearby enemies.
The result keeps the basic silhouette of a tank while effectively treating the cannon barrel as an oversized melee weapon around which combos can be built.
Three Tanks Offer Different Combat Styles
Next Stage has confirmed three playable tanks.
Each will have its own combat style and abilities, meaning the game is not simply offering one vehicle with slightly different statistics.
Their names, full ability sets, progression, upgrades and unlock requirements have not yet been detailed.
The basic systems already indicate that players will need to combine vehicle movement with offense.
A tank can drift to rapidly alter its approach, close the distance on a large machine and turn that momentum into a ram or cannon-barrel strike.
Boost pads and ramps placed across stages provide additional speed and launch opportunities, while mid-air tricks can be performed before returning to the battlefield.
The More Expensive the Destruction, the Higher the Score
One of SLAM TANK's more distinctive systems is the way performance is measured.
Steam defines the player's score as the total financial cost of damage dealt to the AI's machines.
The objective therefore extends beyond simply defeating every enemy. Creating more destruction and increasing its total value becomes part of chasing a new personal best.
Destroyed containers and machinery can also reveal computer hardware, including CPUs and GPUs.
That imagery fits a world in which artificial intelligence has taken control of machinery, although the developer has not yet explained whether those components carry a deeper narrative meaning.
The scoring system also gives players a reason to replay stages and look for better ways to maximize damage value.
Industrial Machines and an Armed Train Fight Back
SLAM TANK's enemies are not limited to other tanks.
Steam describes massive industrial machines blocking the player's path, while AUTOMATON also points to robots and heavy machinery across industrial environments.
One revealed boss takes the form of an armed train.
The encounter appears to take place in a dedicated arena, where the train can launch missiles and charge directly toward the player's tank.
Players must evade attacks, use drifting and boost pads to keep pace, then close the gap so cannon-barrel attacks can connect.
That structure reinforces SLAM TANK's identity as a high-speed action game whose protagonist happens to be a tank rather than a conventional tactical tank shooter.
Tanks Can Be Customized With Decals and Cosmetic Parts
SLAM TANK also includes a customization layer outside combat.
Players can equip decals and cosmetic parts before taking their tank into battle.
Steam specifically says decals can be positioned freely, allowing the vehicle's appearance to be personalized.
It has not yet been explained whether cosmetic parts are purely visual or have additional effects.
The acquisition system, total cosmetic count at launch and any connection between unlocks and stage scores also remain unannounced.
For now, customization is presented as a visual feature complementing the player's attempts to improve previous stage records.
Next Stage Returns to High-Speed Action After Ultra Age
SLAM TANK is both developed and published by Next Stage Inc.
The South Korean studio previously co-developed Ultra Age with Visual DART, an action game built around fast combat and blade switching.
Next Stage's own website describes the company as an action-focused studio working on high-speed action-adventure games.
SLAM TANK uses a dramatically different subject—a tank—but the same interest in speed is visible through drifting, combos, aerial tricks and close-range boss battles.
Next Stage has not announced a console version. At present, PC through Steam is the only confirmed platform.
The Developer Also Discloses Generative-AI-Assisted Development
Steam contains a separate disclosure regarding SLAM TANK's production.
Next Stage states that generative-AI-assisted tools were used during development to help with selected programming tasks and to create or refine some 3D models.
The studio says all AI-assisted code and 3D assets were subsequently reviewed, edited, tested and integrated by the development team.
AI-assisted tools were also used for selected Steam marketing artwork.
The game itself does not generate AI content while being played and does not connect to an external AI service.
That production detail is notable next to a fictional story about an AI-controlled machine world, but the two contexts should remain separate: one is the game's premise, while the other is a disclosure about development tools.
Why This Matters
1) The tank behaves like a character-action protagonist
Drifts, combos, ramming, aerial tricks and cannon-barrel melee attacks make the vehicle function more like a hack-and-slash character than a conventional tank-shooter unit.
2) Destruction is directly tied to scoring
Damage is not purely visual. Its financial value becomes the player's score and creates an incentive to chase personal bests.
3) The enemy roster makes use of vehicle scale
Industrial robots and an armed train create opponents physically suited to machine-on-machine melee combat.
4) Next Stage is applying its action experience to a radically different concept
After Ultra Age centered on sword combat, the studio is now using a tank while retaining a high-speed action philosophy.
