UN:Me builds its central dilemma around a young girl who awakens in a mysterious world with four human souls occupying the same body. Each has lost its memories, each insists that it is the body's rightful owner, and only one will ultimately be allowed to remain.

Published by SHUEISHA GAMES and developed by historia, the Soul Triage Adventure blends dialogue, third-person exploration, memory investigation and psychological horror. Its deceptively beautiful world grows increasingly disturbing through strange hospitals, flower-headed patients, unsettling nurses and manifestations of trauma that can directly disrupt the girl's ability to move and survive.

Four Souls Fight Over One Body

UN:Me's story is built around one difficult question: who actually owns the girl's body?

Four voices inhabit her mind. They are human souls stranded within the strange world, but none remembers its identity clearly. The one thing they all believe with certainty is that the girl's body belongs to them.

Players are not simply being asked to choose a favorite personality. To determine who is telling the truth, they must speak with every soul, observe its behavior, recover pieces of memory and gradually reconstruct the identity each one has lost.

The more clearly those personalities emerge, the more difficult the final decision becomes because only one soul is allowed to remain.

Dialogue Does More Than Deliver Information

Conversation is one of the game's core systems.

Memory fragments recovered through exploration unlock new questions that can be presented to the four souls.

How those questions are asked matters. Players can push a soul, calm it down, provoke it or reassure it. Those responses slowly help a blank presence recover a recognizable personality and sense of self.

Steam also describes dialogue as taking place under time pressure, making the choice of what to ask more consequential than a passive dialogue menu.

Interactions can influence the unstable world as well. As souls recover their memories and identities, the environment surrounding them can shift in response.

Souls Can Seize the Body Without Permission

UN:Me uses third-person exploration, but the personality currently controlling the body is not always chosen directly by the player.

One of the four souls can suddenly take control of the girl.

That change has mechanical consequences. Every soul has different abilities, affecting what actions can be performed and which paths are accessible. A route blocked for one soul may become reachable when another emerges.

Players must therefore adapt to whichever personality comes forward and use its traits to recover memory fragments scattered throughout the world.

Trauma Can Turn Exploration Into a Chase

Every soul carries a different wound from its past.

Remain in control as one soul for too long under certain circumstances and that trauma can manifest. Its effects are incorporated directly into gameplay: vision can distort, sound can become corrupted, and the girl's body may stop responding normally.

Trauma can also appear as a physical threat that pursues the player.

A soul that has not sufficiently recovered its identity is unable to fight back. In those situations, the only answer is to run.

That makes psychological trauma a functional exploration mechanic instead of merely background characterization.

Hospitals, Flower-Headed Patients and a World Gone Wrong

One area already revealed initially resembles an ordinary hospital.

The deeper the girl travels, however, the stranger it becomes.

SHUEISHA GAMES describes nurses wearing emotionless smiles while patients with flowers for heads continue what the environment treats as an ordinary routine. Gameplay imagery also shows distorted anatomy and spaces that look familiar while feeling fundamentally wrong.

Game*Spark highlighted this contrast as one of UN:Me's strongest visual hooks: the world can be visually beautiful while almost every element quietly undermines the player's sense of comfort.

Rather than depending only on darkness or constant jumpscares, the horror comes from abnormality being treated as everyday life.

Soul I and Soul III Receive Their First Detailed Profiles

SHUEISHA GAMES revealed more detailed information on two of the four souls on August 26.

Soul I is direct and says what it thinks. Its way of speaking resembles a girl around the body's apparent age, while its emotional state and facial expressions change dramatically.

Soul III is more thoughtful. It uses polite language, but its manner creates a noticeable emotional distance. Its expression is frequently clouded and it tends to avoid eye contact.

Those differences matter because players will have to evaluate testimony from personalities with very different communication styles and psychological responses.

The same August update did not provide equivalent full profiles for Soul II and Soul IV.

Japan's First Playable Demo Is Coming to Tokyo Game Show 2026

Japanese players will be able to try UN:Me before launch at Tokyo Game Show 2026.

SHUEISHA GAMES confirmed it as one of the main playable titles at its booth alongside Jujutsu Kaisen RUMBLE: SURVIVATON. The build is described as the first opportunity to play UN:Me in Japan.

Tokyo Game Show 2026 runs from September 17 through September 21 at Makuhari Messe and associated venues.

There is currently no confirmation that the TGS build will later become a publicly downloadable demo on Steam, PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2.

Why This Matters

1) Understanding the characters makes the final decision harder

The game asks players to deeply investigate all four souls, only to use that knowledge to decide which one is allowed to continue existing in the body.

2) Trauma directly affects exploration

Each soul's psychological history can alter visuals, controls, threats and available routes, keeping narrative and gameplay tightly connected.

3) Its horror comes from abnormal things being treated as ordinary

Flower-headed patients and surreal hospital environments are not simply monster rooms; they are part of what this world considers normal.

4) Changing souls changes how the world can be explored

The personality occupying the body determines abilities and routes, making identity itself part of the exploration system.
