The Uta Macross revival project has moved well beyond the figures initially reported by AUTOMATON. Its CAMPFIRE campaign began on September 10, 2026 at 8:00 PM JST, cleared the initial ¥30 million target in roughly one hour, and had reached ¥80,855,678 from 2,060 backers when this article was verified on the morning of September 12 JST.
That momentum pushes the project beyond an important ¥75 million stretch goal, which calls for development to begin on a home console version following the iOS, Android and PC Steam releases. Uta Macross itself is being rebuilt as a premium/offline version of Uta Macross Smartphone De Culture, the cross-series Macross rhythm game that ran from 2017 until its service ended in June 2022.

Stretch Goal Announcement, Teaser PV, and Steam

From ¥30 Million to More Than ¥80 Million in a Matter of Days
AUTOMATON reported that at 6:00 PM JST on September 11, Uta Macross had reached roughly ¥70.8 million from 1,680 backers. At that point, the campaign was still just short of the ¥75 million console-development stretch goal.
That changed within hours. When CAMPFIRE was checked again on the morning of September 12 JST, the project displayed ¥80,855,678 from 2,060 backers.
Against its ¥30 million starting target, that represents 269% funding and means the project has now crossed both its initial funding threshold and its first stretch goal.
The original ¥30 million target was reached roughly one hour after the campaign opened at 8:00 PM JST on September 10. That early response prompted AUGUST to announce a new series of stretch goals on September 11.
One distinction matters, however: crowdfunding was not presented as the sole factor deciding whether the game would exist. CAMPFIRE uses an All-in model, and the project's English page explicitly states that the game will be released regardless of whether the ¥30 million goal is met. Additional support is being used to improve quality, features, platforms and content scope.
¥75 Million Opens Development of a Home Console Version
The first stretch goal was set at ¥75 million.
AUGUST says reaching that level means the team will begin development of a home console version. With crowdfunding now above ¥80 million, the numerical requirement has been met.
The announcement does not identify specific hardware such as Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. For now, the official wording remains simply “home console version.”
Its schedule is also separate from the base launch. AUGUST aims to release the console edition after Uta Macross first arrives on iOS, Android and Steam.
Spring 2027 therefore remains the target window for the three primary platforms, while the console release has no specific date, price or hardware list yet.
This is already a meaningful change from the situation described in AUTOMATON's original article, when funding was still slightly below the ¥75 million threshold.
¥90 Million and ¥100 Million Are the Next Targets
With ¥75 million cleared, CAMPFIRE now displays ¥90 million as the next goal.
Reaching it will increase the number of songs included in UTA MACROSS SUPER DIMENSION 3D miniLIVE, described as a private 3D digital live experience and another way to preserve the 3D performance identity associated with Uta Macross.
The following stretch goal is ¥100 million.
That level moves beyond simply restoring old material. The team plans to develop new songs that were never included in Uta Macross Smartphone De Culture.
Those tracks are targeted for release as paid DLC after the base package launches.
Crowdfunding has therefore already moved beyond the question of whether the 2022 game can be reconstructed. Its next stages will determine how far the revived Uta Macross can expand through platforms and content unavailable in the former live-service version.
The Premium Reconstruction Removes Stamina and Old Monetization
The new Uta Macross is not simply the old mobile server being switched back on.
Its systems are being rebuilt around a buy-to-own/offline model, which means mechanics once required for a mobile live service need to function differently.
Elements such as paid monetization and stamina consumption are being removed. Popular live performances, illustrations, dances and presentation from the former version are being retained where possible, while progression is redesigned around a premium game.
Gacha is not disappearing entirely because a reconstructed version is still used to raise Episode Plate rarity.
The major difference is that it does not require real-money currency. Players earn the required items through gameplay, can use the system without payment, and the gacha has been changed to a BOX-style structure to make collection completion more manageable.
PC also requires another layer of rebuilding. The original game was designed around smartphone touch controls, while the revival is being optimized for keyboard and mouse, alongside broader UI and input changes.
The Base Package Includes 50 Songs, 1,000 Plates, and Extensive Outfits
The base package is planned to include roughly 50 selected songs from across the Macross franchise.
Steam currently lists 10 songstresses: Lynn Minmay, Basara Nekki, Mylene Jenius, Sheryl Nome, Ranka Lee, Freyja Wion, Mikumo Guynemer, Kaname Buccaneer, Reina Prowler, and Makina Nakajima.
The sample catalog spans The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta.
Players will also begin with more than 1,000 Episode Plates at ★4 rarity or above and more than 20 outfits for each songstress.
AUGUST plans to release several DLC packs alongside the base package. Those packs will bring back live-service songs not included in the initial selection, along with selected Plates and outfits.
That structure is necessary because the former game accumulated a considerably larger catalog than the roughly 50 songs planned for the base release, with music licensing and performance assets attached to each track.
Uta Macross Is Being Rebuilt Four Years After Its Service Ended
The original Uta Macross Smartphone De Culture launched through DeNA on August 3, 2017 for iOS and Android.
It became the first dedicated Macross rhythm game to bring several franchise eras together. Songstresses performed in 3D, rhythm stages could trigger Valkyrie Mode and special sequences, and characters and visuals from multiple series shared one application.
Its service officially ended on June 28, 2022 at 3:00 PM JST, after nearly five years of operation.
The new project exists because calls for a revival did not disappear with the servers. Its team brings together people who worked on the original game as well as members who were previously players and fans.
xeen is once again involved in development, while AUGUST serves as publisher. Rather than simply porting old data, the project is attempting to convert a discontinued live service into a premium title that does not depend on an operating server indefinitely.
Why This Matters
1) Crowdfunding has already crossed its first platform-expansion target
The original ¥30 million goal was not merely exceeded; funding has now passed the ¥75 million threshold that begins home console development.
2) Stretch goals are starting to create genuinely new content
The ¥100 million target goes beyond recovering existing assets by proposing songs that were never part of the original Uta Macross.
3) A former live service is being redesigned into something easier to preserve
Monetization and stamina are removed, while progression, gacha, live performances, Plates and outfits are reworked for a premium offline title.
4) It offers one possible model for preserving games after server shutdowns
Instead of leaving Uta Macross permanently inaccessible after 2022, former developers and fans are using the original assets and experience to create a version that no longer relies on continuous online operation.
