Family Time, the new simulation game from indie developer sgthale, is now available to wishlist on Steam. Alongside the Steam push, the developer shared new footage on September 12, 2026 under the title “Wolf Mama and Chicken Husbandry,” highlighting the family and animal-raising systems currently being built.

Its premise deliberately escalates a simple domestic problem into a colony-scale challenge. The player suddenly becomes a father living with the Wolf Mama, while the number of wolf children grows over time. Feeding them, providing shelter and beds, producing resources and keeping the family sustainable become increasingly difficult as the population expands into the hundreds or potentially thousands.

You Are Suddenly the Father of a Rapidly Growing Family

Steam introduces the premise with a remarkably direct statement: “You're a Father Now.”

The player has to care for dozens of wolf children, but that number is not intended to remain small. Steam says their population grows every night, gradually turning a strange family simulator into a large-scale management problem.

The store page deliberately asks how many children the player can sustain: 10, 100, 1,000 or even 10,000.

That is where its colony-simulation structure starts to emerge. Every additional pup means more food, more shelter, more sleeping space and more resources to manage.

The Wolf Mama is more than background flavor as well. Steam's deliberately dark comedy warns that failing to care for the family will anger her, going as far as saying she will kill the player if the household collapses.

Chickens, Pigs, Farming and Hunting Feed the Population

The September 12 footage is titled “Wolf Mama and Chicken Husbandry,” making chicken raising one of the clearest systems featured in the latest development material.

That follows earlier development blogs focused on Chickens and Hunger. The developer has also stated in the itch.io community that chickens have already been implemented and pigs have been added.

Food matters because the family population is designed to keep increasing.

Steam currently describes two major approaches: farm food or head out hunting with the family.

Chicken husbandry is therefore not simply a decorative side activity. It connects to the larger survival loop of keeping an increasingly difficult-to-support household fed.

As the number of wolf pups climbs, food production becomes a scaling problem rather than a one-time task.

Housing and Beds Become a Problem of Scale

Food is only part of the equation.

Family Time also requires shelter for the family. Players can build housing themselves or issue commands so family members help with construction.

Beds have a direct purpose as well. Steam tells players to keep the family comfortable in their own beds so the Wolf Mama does not become angry.

An earlier Building and Sleeping development update described food, shelter, water and protection as the central needs around which the game is being built.

The population system therefore has real mechanical implications. One hundred children do not simply mean one hundred characters on screen; they represent one hundred entities that need space, supplies, rest and protection.

The developer has summarized the central design question as: how many wolf pups can a family realistically support?

Thousands of Wolf Pups Create a Technical Challenge

One of Family Time's most unusual ambitions is its NPC count.

The itch.io project page says the game uses novel GPU technology to push Unity past its limits, with the explicit goal of supporting literally thousands of wolf children.

Previous interaction-development footage also described much of the simulation as GPU-driven, with certain close interactions able to shift logic toward the CPU.

That approach fits a game trying to manage substantially more agents than a conventional life simulator.

The game is still in heavy development, however. The final practical NPC ceiling on consumer hardware, the complexity of individual AI at very large scales and final performance targets have not been established publicly.

Steam's 10,000-child challenge is therefore best understood as part of the game's deliberately extreme design premise rather than a guarantee that every PC configuration will smoothly simulate that number.

A Randomly Generated 4 km x 4 km World

The population is paired with a relatively large playable space.

When asked about world size, sgthale stated that Family Time currently uses a 4 km × 4 km randomly generated map.

The developer compared its dimensions with GTA IV as a rough sense of scale, although the two games obviously differ dramatically in world density and design.

Steam currently shows user-defined tags including Colony Sim, Farming Sim, Life Sim, Sandbox, Exploration, First-Person, Automation, Base Building, and Crafting.

Those are community tags rather than all being official genre labels, but the available footage and development information do support a mixture of first-person exploration, household management, farming, building and command systems.

Multiplayer is not currently planned, according to a recent developer response. The focus remains on a single-player simulation.

Wishlists Are Open, but the Public Game Is Not Yet Playable

The itch.io metadata needs a little clarification.

The Family Time project page currently displays the technical status “Released,” while the same page prominently states “In heavy development!”

When a player recently asked where the game could be downloaded, sgthale replied “Not yet!”

Steam likewise states that Family Time is not yet available and currently targets Q1 2027.

The safest description is therefore straightforward: the project page and Steam wishlist are public, development updates are being posted, but a public playable release has not launched.

Pricing, a specific launch day, future public-demo details and any additional platforms also remain unconfirmed through the current Steam listing.

Why This Matters

1) A family sim becomes a colony-management problem

Rather than caring for one or two characters, Family Time intentionally scales the household into hundreds or thousands, turning ordinary domestic needs into logistics.

2) The wolf pups are intended to be functional agents

They require food, shelter and sleeping space and can participate in parts of the household workflow, making population growth mechanically meaningful.

3) Animal husbandry has a systemic purpose

Chickens, pigs, farming and hunting all connect directly to the need to feed a family whose size keeps increasing.

4) Simulation technology is part of the game's identity

The developer openly treats the challenge of pushing Unity to simulate very large agent counts as one of Family Time's defining technical experiments.

Closing

Family Time now has a much clearer public destination through its Steam wishlist and Q1 2027 release target. The latest Wolf Mama and Chicken Husbandry footage reinforces that its absurd family premise is being built around genuine simulation systems involving population growth, farming, hunting, shelter, sleeping arrangements and large numbers of autonomous characters.

The project is still in heavy development. Pricing, the exact launch date, final performance with thousands of wolf pups, public-demo plans and final PC requirements all remain subject to further announcements from sgthale.
