Monomagia Cantabile, MBA International's PC otome visual novel, is approaching the end of sales for its original release across several digital storefronts. Steam has set September 30, 2026 JST as the end of sales and distribution for both the game and its demo, while the official Monomagia account says animateGAMES, DMM and BOOTH will also stop selling it at the end of September.
The announcement does not represent a shutdown that makes existing copies unplayable. MBA International confirms that Steam users who already own Monomagia Cantabile will continue to be able to download, install and play it. Meanwhile, development attention is moving toward the larger new project Monomagia Cantabile — To My First Star.

Steam Ends Sales of Both the Game and Demo on September 30
Steam's official announcement provides the most specific deadline for the original release.
Sales and distribution of both Monomagia Cantabile and Monomagia DEMO will end on September 30, 2026 in Japan Standard Time. New users will no longer be able to acquire them through that storefront afterward.
The official Monomagia account expands that announcement to other stores. animateGAMES, DMM and BOOTH are also scheduled to end sales at the end of September.
One important exception is absent from the original screenshot: DLsite does not end sales in September. The official account says the old edition will remain available there until the end of December 2026.
The delisting schedule is therefore not identical across every storefront.
Existing Steam Owners Can Still Download and Play
For players who have already purchased the game on Steam, the end of sales does not remove it from their libraries.
MBA International specifically states that existing owners will remain able to download, reinstall and launch Monomagia Cantabile normally after September 30.
That remains possible because the game is a single-player experience and does not rely on dedicated external servers that would need to remain online.
In other words, this is an end-of-sales announcement rather than a server shutdown or termination of functionality for existing Steam owners.
That assurance is explicitly provided for Steam. Access and redownload policies on other storefronts remain subject to their respective platform systems unless the publisher issues additional clarification.
MBA International Is Consolidating the Catalog Around a New Title
Steam explains the discontinuation as a move to reorganize the product catalog and concentrate development resources on upcoming new titles.
The official Monomagia account describes the transition more specifically as consolidating the brand around its latest project.
That distinction matters because Monomagia itself is not being abandoned as an IP. A substantially expanded follow-up project is already in development under the title Monomagia Cantabile — To My First Star.
Its new title and logo were unveiled in August 2026. The project grew from plans to expand the 2022 game with additional scenarios, new endings for individual characters and fully voiced character routes.
The 2022 edition's delisting is therefore better understood as a catalog transition toward the new iteration rather than the end of Monomagia as a whole.
The 2022 Game Combines Seven Romance Routes With Card Battles
The original Monomagia Cantabile is an otome game that goes beyond dialogue choices alone.
Its protagonist awakens in an unfamiliar room before discovering a town that resembles the world of a picture book. In this world, many matters are decided through a card game known as Monomagia. She sets out with several companions while searching for a way back to her own world.
The game features seven romanceable characters, with six event CGs for each character according to the official BOOTH listing. Its scenario totals approximately 440,000 Japanese characters, while player choices can lead to 17 endings.
Its battle mechanic is based on the card game Speed, requiring players to place consecutively numbered cards faster than their opponent in order to deal damage.
That system gives Monomagia a mixture of romance visual-novel progression and card battling rather than functioning entirely as a branching text adventure.
To My First Star Is Being Built on a Much Larger Scale
The follow-up development project was backed through crowdfunding that raised ¥3,255,000 from 37 supporters, reaching 162% of its ¥2 million target.
Its original goal was to expand the 2022 PC release with new scenarios, additional endings and full voice acting for the individual character routes.
The scope later grew considerably. Current official development updates estimate that the new edition will contain around 800,000 Japanese characters of scenario text and roughly 100 CGs excluding variations.
Its release schedule has also shifted several times. An April 2026 update moved the latest target to late January 2027, with January 22, 2027 presented as a provisional date.
The developer emphasizes that the date is not yet final because Nintendo's review process could move it by several days.
The project has also been retitled Monomagia Cantabile — To My First Star, reinforcing its position as the brand's new primary release.
Why This Matters
1) Delisting does not erase the game from Steam libraries
Players who already own the original release retain access to downloading, installing and playing it after sales end.
2) DLsite has a different deadline
Steam and three other stores stop selling the game at the end of September, while DLsite keeps a purchase window open through the end of December 2026.
3) The original edition is being retired while a new project is actively in development
MBA International directly links its catalog reorganization with concentrating resources on future titles.
4) To My First Star has grown far beyond the scope of the 2022 edition
A scenario previously measuring about 440,000 characters is being expanded toward roughly 800,000, alongside new endings, full-voice routes and around 100 CGs.
