The Steam Version Launches on Kuro Day

KEMCO released the Steam edition on September 6, deliberately connecting the date with Kuro. In Japanese numerical wordplay, nine can be read as “ku” and six as “ro,” making 9/6 a fitting “Kuro Day.”

The official announcement confirms both the PC release and the inclusion of five stories taking place after the main scenario.

Five New Stories Continue Beyond the Main Ending

The biggest content addition to the PC release is a set of five post-game stories.

Steam lists them as ふー, なつ, みー, にゅー, and キナ. Crowdfunding material previously described a target of approximately 40,000 Japanese characters per story, with an estimated playtime of around 40–80 minutes each.

That placed the initial total at roughly 200,000 additional Japanese characters. These scenarios originated from ideas that were not fully realized when the original game was produced.

Because all five stories take place after the main scenario, new players will still need to experience the core game before the additional material can be understood in its intended context.

The PC Edition Also Reworks Older Artwork

Water Phoenix used the Steam project as an opportunity to update the visual presentation.

The crowdfunding plan specifically called for revisions to existing character portraits and event stills, reflecting how much R's illustration style had changed in the roughly eight years since the original game's development.

Additional artwork was also created for the post-game stories. During development, the planned number of new illustrations grew as the team identified scenes that would benefit from dedicated visuals.

That makes the Steam release meaningfully different from a simple emulated or direct re-release of the original build.

Kuro and Hyouma Remain at the Center of the Story

The main story follows Kuro, an “invisible” girl, and Hyouma, a young man whose unusual condition means he can only see and hear people who are invisible.

Their meeting allows two isolated people to compensate for what the other lacks, but their attempt to live peacefully is gradually interrupted by increasingly strange phenomena.

Doors to parallel worlds appear, versions of Kuro from other realities emerge, and unexplained events escalate into recurring “disasters” that repeatedly destroy the lives they are trying to preserve.

Steam estimates the overall main experience at roughly 20–40 hours, depending on reading speed and whether players listen to voiced dialogue in full.

The Steam Project Was Funded to 561 Percent

The PC port received development support through a CAMPFIRE campaign launched in April 2026.

Its initial goal was ¥1 million, but the campaign ultimately closed at ¥5,619,505 from 360 backers, reaching roughly 561% of its target.

Funding was directed toward the porting process, new voice recording, post-game scripts, new artwork, revisions to older assets, and other production costs.

The campaign also led to additional supporter rewards including a voice drama, digital soundtrack, setting materials and exclusive artwork. By August, Water Phoenix had entered final checking and debugging before the September launch.

The Soundtrack Is Available on Steam as Well

The PC launch also brings the My Dearest Direst Disaster Soundtrack to Steam.

The OST includes 25 tracks, with several pieces tied to material surrounding the Steam remake. The base game and soundtrack are also sold together through an OST Bundle.
